Terrible, bland, lukewarm food delivered 30 minutes late(1.5 hours in total), for which we received no apology. Duck dish contained a meat that looked nothing at all like duck. Had to beg for a 25% discount off the bill that we had already paid by card. 5 days AND2 phone calls later and still no refund. Will NEVER order from these crooks who can’t cook again.

Food is nice, but the service very average. When asked for their speciality, they had to look into menu and even then had nothing to recommend. Slightly overpriced as well.

A clear cut above your average Indian, from chutney to bread to curry. A seasonal menu accompanies the main menu. Loses a star only for the poor beer options.

I can’t believe this place hasn’t been reviewed for so long! It’s one of my favouriite places for curry EVER. Their ghee-free dishes are a delight; rich and tasty without the obligatory slick of grease you get at most British curry houses. They do a great lunch menu; two courses for about eight quid, and it’s worth checking out their website before you head out as they often have special offers.

I really wanted to like Indian Moment more, but it was just mediocre really. The food was quite good but not amazing and they sat us in probably the most awkward spot possible. My boyfriend commented at some point(and said I had to include this in my review), «how many people are going to bump into our mushrooms?!» — the reason being that we were smack in the middle of the main pathway, so everyone coming or going had to shimmy past us and knocked into our mushroom dish every time. I also didn’t really like the way they up sold. The staff were very pleasant and polite, but they did this tricky thing where they kept asking if we wanted this or that with our main course and they did so in a way that made us think these things were included, but was actually just their way of getting us to order a bunch of side dishes we didn’t need and in the end doubled our check. Kind of annoying. On the upside, there were tons of leftovers and being American, I always ask to take leftovers home with me so that means Chicken Korma for lunch today!

Good old Indian Moment. I’d like to single out this modest curry house for special praise for being open yesterday, 2nd of February 2009, when practically every other establishment shut down on account of the adverse weather. And just what major obstacle prevented people from actually getting on with their lives and jobs? The irony of all this is that really, if you want to, and you try, you can get things done, snow or no snow. And Indian moment did exactly that: they opened, and of course they were fuller than full for a Monday night. Good for them. I hope they made lots of money. The atmosphere is informal, friendly and fun, they can accommodate large tables as well as quiet couples, and the menu is quite eclectic, not the conventional curry house list of Anglo-Indian dishes, and they use a fun little chilli symbol to show how hot each dish is. They use fresh ingredients and no sign of the hideous gooey MSG. The dal sag is superb — could have had spoonfuls of it — and a very intriguing hot king prawn dish called mirich chingri was also excellent. Great place, and their take-away service is also first-class. Indian Moment is a Northcote Road institution well worth preserving. Three cheers for Indian Moment!
