My childhood years were tough, being as blind as a bat does that. The constantly changing prescription and not even a hope of decent glasses. My lenses were thick; they made the Hubble Space Telescope look lean. Yes I was less Harry Potter and more Penfold. I looked longingly at two of my saviours, contact lenses and high index lenses but alas the prices were far too high have to keep dishing out. So it was I lived my life behind an NHS glass curtain. In adulthood I found the wonders of Indian opticians, and realised how excessive the prices were here, I was free! Pity I had to go to india for it! Although there are plenty of online retailers Iris the first shop with a physical showroom that made high index at a reasonable price. Only two downsides; you have to buy a designer frame and there is no in house optician. They made the glasses I’m wearing now and as the lenses were so cheap the whole package ended up being very reasonable. The service was good and fast and I’m planning on getting another pair soon. Top Tip — before you go in, know you intra-pupillary distance, they need this for the lenses and its not normally written on your eye prescription so you have to ask specifically. There you have it an easy way round the glass curtain.
