Some friends and I went to KT for a catch-up dinner on a Monday night, there was a fair amount of space and it was quite quiet(perhaps we were slightly raucous compared with all of the other diners). The ambiance is the nicest of the Kennington restaurants that I’ve been to, and the staff were attentive. We decided on just mains, which were surprisingly slow to come out(based on how many other diners were in) and our order was slightly mixed up but it kind of worked in our favour the food was very filling, but not particularly spicy(worth asking about if you’re keen on spice). All-in-all it was the company that made the evening rather than the food, and the price was a little higher for Kennington that I’d have thought appropriate. The MP photos all over one of the windows possibly points to why the owners have decided to head down this route.

The best naan I’ve had. Ever. Its a sleek little restaurant in Kennington, attentive waiters, clean and stylish décor and amazing curry! Ice cold Cobra in refrigerated glasses. Attention to detail really makes this place stand out, and the delicious food makes it even better! Their perfect fluffy naan need to be tried to be believed!

You must know that I have had delightful Indian food in several places in California and was expecting lovely service and delicious food. I really wanted my son to enjoy as he hasn’t had any Indian food in over a year. So the anticipation was fairly high to begin with. We looked up the restaurant on-line and saw that the hours were 12 – 12. Goodie! It was about 5:15 when we found the place, only to be whooshed away for an undisclosed time frame as they were not«open» but were there cleaning the windows. We walked cross the street and had a nice ale and gave them time to «clean». We came back at 6 pm. Got the dirty looks from the manager, I presume. Got seated anyhow as we love Indian food, walked a ways to find the joint, hadn’t seen each other in 9 months, and weren’t giving up but we sure should have. 5 servers and we were the only ones there until one other couple popped in but still service was scarce. Both my husband and son wanted tikka masala. I ordered spinach saag. Rice and naan ordered too. Okay I have had tikka masala in hot line places for $ 5 meals that tasted better than this. I have also eaten in finer restaurants too but have never tasted sweet tikka masala. It was full of nutmeg or cinnamon. Tasted more like a sweet potato dish. I had a friend who was a chef make me tikka masala and it was savory SAVORY! Not sweet! The spinach saag was wonderful I must say. The naan? Blah! Better at the $ 5 spot again! Rice was better there too. The kicker? All 5 servers were busy serving themselves beverages then serving us. I had to request the check after refusing dessert and sitting there for 20 minutes. The manager? He was too busy eating dinner in the back. He was an ass. Snobby and unprofessional. And if H.Y. is correct? They make food white people like? Really? You can sum up an entire group. Stereotyping. How about asking? Would you like it mild, medium, or hot?

OMG — lemme set the scene. Me and my partner been painting ALL day, we finally clean the last of the brushes and settle down in front of the laptop to watch GoldenGirls. Because the apartment is up side down — i said, boo, lets order a take away. Cool — i google curry houses in the area; up pops KT. We looked on the website; hmmm, fancy Indian food, OK?! I ordered on line and was told i may wait an hour. Wickedness! 25 mins later, some dude shows up with the food. As i unpacked the curries, i was totally impressed with the packaging; my name was written on every thing! Still, why three parathas were wrapped individually kills me, but, i was HUNGRY and so was my boo — so we served up. As i served the ALoo Gobi, i was thinkin, where the hell is the curry; some dry bits of veg was in the box and a bit of oil and herb. Well — the food looked gourmet? This could be AMAYZINNNNNG! Dished everything up — aloo gobi and paneer sag. We had three parathas to share and bless, they’d even thrown in some Poppadoms for free. holy shit — the first mouth was the worst. The Aloo gobi tasted like it was sitting in some mild ass washin up liquid. My boo and i looked at eachother; has this food got a funny after taste? Erm, yes it does. Then i tried the Sag Paneer — that was just as bad. Spinach floating in a sea of single cream with hard chunks of cheese. Oh man!!! WTH… We scooped up washing up flavoured veg and single cream spinach with semi-cooked paratha’s. D’you know what its like to eat paratha’s that ain’t been cooked properly? Nasty!!! I got on the phone to KT — i just had to chat to the manager, i had to. In a nutshell — the manager said — this is gora food; what white people want. If you wanted ‘curry’ with flavour and spice, you shoulda said so on the phone. For real!!! I do know to ask for curry Desi style — but that usually only pertains to chilli’s, my boo doesn’t like her food spicy — so i didn’t mention the code word Desi. Gora never complained i was told. Damn — this food was awful and i wasn’t even talkin about the fact it had no chilli’s in it. Gora, Desi or Mexican, people with a brain know good food. Wow — this is one of the worst experiences i ever had. How HOW can u go SO wrong with a curry??? The manager said — next time you order(ha!) we’ll spot you three paratha’s — that’s it. I said, brother — what do you want me to do with this inedible food now and two hungry bellies… silence. My boo said this morning; ‘Damn, that food was like really bad American hospital food?!’ I agree. I ain’t EVER goin KT never again.

This is a really nice restaurant with great service and exceptional food! I live 2 tube stops away but its well worth the journey and its become a non-local local for me. When my mates come to London I always take them here for a good feed before a night out. I wish I could go every week but its not exactly a cheap restaurant(you get what you pay for though!) They have recently started taking online orders so I can get the exact same grub at home(for quite a bit cheaper) — the only down side of the online ordering is that I don’t get to see the guys in the restaurant who are all a really nice bunch, I’ve been coming here for a couple of years so they know my name and I always get such a lovely welcome.

OK — I admit that I was spoilt when living in Hertford and having the amazing Bollywood Indian restaurant on my doorstep. Quality, fresh and contemporary environment. ‘Love Love Love the newly remodelled Kennington Tandoori’!!! The décor is great and the food is amazing. I beg you to go in and order what you always order when you have Indian. You will re-fall in love with Indian food!!! The Brinjal Bhajee was the best I have ever had — I would consider ordering it as a main and eat it like a salad. Crunchy, spicy and incredibly fresh. Chicken Shashlik was moist and full of flavour. The rice was puffy and chewy and the mint sauce is perfect. …and they deliver!!! A must for people who enjoy quality, modern, fresh food.

Crikey this place was busy on Friday night! Probably due to a little sporting tournament called ‘The ashes’ taking place at the nearby Oval. The queue was out the door(not sure if this is a regular occurrence), but fortunately we had booked ahead. Six of us were squeezed around a table for four, in a room which is essentially 2 rows of tables and a narrow corridor for the waiters to run up and down. The wine selection was good, for an Indian restaurant, and the menu was extensive. I found it quite hard to choose — there was so much choice… In the end i settled for a Palek Ghosh(lamb and spinach dish). It lacked as much spice as i normally go for in a curry, but maybe this is the traditional way it was meant to be served. Most of the mains were under a tenner, but i thought the rice was quite expensive(£2.25 +) for the portion size. I’d go back here again with a group of friends — we all seemed to enjoy it. The décor is nice and the crockery/cutlery stylish. The waiters handled the full restaurant of demanding customers very well and all in our bill came to a very reasonable £115 for 6 mains, 4 rice, 2 naan, 6 popadums, 4 cobras, one bottle of wine and one bottle of water… i think…

Pricey but tasty Indian which needs an improvement in customer service. I heard good things about this restaurant and was also taken on a recommendation but ultimately I came away feeling a little dissappointed by the restaurant. The food was great but the portions were pretty small and the cost for what you were getting was quite steep. The service, also, wasn’t too friendly and I felt that it was trading on its reputation of yesteryear a bit. Popular with the political set I saw Anne Widdecombe there who doesn’t look as scary as on TV. I like curry but there are better places than this around.

Slightly pricey but definitely one of the better(maybe even best!) Indian restaurants in the Kennington/Vauxhall area. Clean feel, tasty food and always good service. Have visited many times and never been let down. If you ever find yourself wandering down Kennington Road looking for a nice spicy curry this is the place to go to — NOT over rated Gandhi’s that’s practically next door.

This indian restaurant is run by lovely people who cook the food to perfection. Everything tastes fresh and spicy. The staff are very kind and are happy to recommend dishes if you aren’t sure what you fancy. Nice atmosphere too.
