Great selection of continental cheese! If you are a turophile(you know who you are) and are in the area it’s a must stop.

Caveat: anyplace that specialises in cheese gets a pretty solid base star score from me. That being said, I was beyond impressed with this shop. Located on the bustling Portobello Road, La Cave a Fromage is the place to go for specialty cheese and perfect wine pairing ideas. The shop itself has a few small tables for dining in(they offer a light menu of wine, bread and cheese — no surprises there!). You’ll need to be ok with the smell of stinky cheese to enter — luckily the stinkier the better in my book! The selection of cheese available can seem overwhelming, but the friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff are on hand to help, offering advice, suggestions, and plenty of tastings to ensure you leave with the perfect purchase. On my visit, I was looking for a sheep’s milk cheese to bring over to a friends for dinner. The woman who helped me, despite having a constant stream of customers, brought me about 5 choices, giving me fantastic descriptions of each, and we tasted them together, until I settled on my choice, a 24 month aged I also purchased some organic quince jelly — a perfect accompaniment with my cheese. Will definitely be visiting again, as it’s a foodie and cheese lovers dream shop!

What an amazing place! I’m always a sucker for anything that involves cheese but at La Cave à Fromage, the staff and the concept have made the whole experience very pleasant! We just stopped there for 5 minutes(to get a bite to eat on our way to the vintage market at the end of the busy portobello road), we got 5 mini sandwiches, they all have their own type of cheese inside. They were all very original and absolutely delicious. The quality of the cheese is remarkable! We were served by the manager of the shop, and he was absolutely wonderful, giving us his recommendations and being really helpful(and I won’t mention the fact that he was French and that obviously always helps!). You can also just come to buy cheese and bread, or take a seat and enjoy a meal with a nice bottle of French red. A French place loved by a French girl, it doesn’t happen very often in London, so it definitely deserved to be given 5 stars!
