I once bought a grey chauffeurs hat from Lock & Co. for a stuido photo-shoot I was undertaking in Lots Road, Chelsea. The grey chauffeurs hat looked almost perfect on the model, while I was photographing her. But I must admit the grey chauffeurs hat, did look a bit Gestapo like. For me, I personally do not wear hats at all, I’m afraid. Nonetheless, I would always recommend Lock & Co. to anyone who is looking for very high-end quality head-wear. Lock & Co also stock other accessories, such as cufflinks, ties, handkerchiefs and scarves and other hat related merchandise.

Cet extraordinaire chapelier existe depuis le XVIIIe siècle. L’une des«Boutiques» de Londres qui donne une idée de la tradition anglaise en matière de vêtements. Quel dommage que la mode des chapeaux ait disparue !!!

When I was a ring mistress, in the circus, my top hats came from here. They also do beautiful ladies hats, mens formal headgear and country wear. The oldest family-run hat shop in the world has been on this spot since 1765, but of course trading even longer supplying the Court at St. James’s . James Lock & Co is situated near St. James’s Palace, and is within close vicinity of three Underground stations: Green Park, Piccadilly Circus, & Charing. But ask any taxi driver for Locks and they will take you there. The family actually invented the bowler hat in 1850 and have supplied the likes of Oscar Wilde, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Depp and others.
