Manbar — ‘I wanna take you to a manbar. I’ve got something to put…’ never-mind :) Manbar is the delightful reincarnation of what was the dodgiest bar in the soho area, cxr. cxr was basically a glorified toilet. Soo far from the venues tainted history is manbar. It’s décor, a cross between ‘magic mike’ and pop art with bold, brightly colored paintings on the walls. The backdrop for the stage is a rather dashing painting of prince harry in the nuddy — nice. The tvs around the bar play the standard mini films of topless muscle-men prancing around, which isn’t my thing, but mildly amusing. There’s a great selection behind the bar, including that rare bitter lemon mixer to go with my vodka. While they don’t make a song and dance about their wine, the house red was really very inoffensive. The bar staff are quick and attentive. Usually I have issues in these sort of venues getting served before my male counterparts, but that didn’t seem to be an issue here. Manbar has a weekly line up of events, including tuesday spotlight, a fun mixed cabaret night where my choir(the pink singers) performed recently. The crowd was great and Manbar were wonderful hosts. The whole bar opens up to the main road, and there is ample seating inside and out. It’s the perfect place to catch up with friends or have a cheeky pint and watch the world go by. And being directly on the charing cross road, the whole world will certainly be walking by. Don’t be put off by the name(it had me stumped to). Manbar is a welcoming venue for all and I definitely recommend giving it a go.
