Beyond that fact that Meson Los Barrile Numero Uno served up the most expensive tapas I’ve ever had, including in Spain, they just weren’t good. Pan con tomate was served on a loaf rather than a baguette and the pulpo al a gallaega was not anything special.

not great… had much better tapas… could be I be spoiled by Barafina which is fantastic. Last time i ate here the food was uninspiring, cold and fairly bland. bit expensive for what you get and unwelcoming surly service.

An excellant Spanish restaurant in Spitalfields. the Tapas are great with lovely Chorizo(Sausage) and patas bravas(Spicey potato). It has a very nice casual atmosphere and the service is pretty good to. It is a very authentic spanish restauarnt that is well worth a visit. Wish there were more like this around. Great Variety.

Well, our original choice of Canteen for lunch was shot down because that whole row of restaurants were«closing» when we got there at 1pm– some sort of security thing I guess, as there were beefy men with walkie talkies everywhere. So we settle on Meson Los Barriles after a bit of humming and ahhing at the uninspired selection in the market. There is nothing wrong with it, but nothing amazing about it either. The whitebait and garlicky prawns were pretty good, the calamaries were yum but a bit anemic; chorizo, tortilla and mushroom(made up by the world’s smallest chestnut mushrooms) were ok and some pork dish was rather… chewy. The only thing was the garlicky oil wasn’t that good, so mopping up just taste like bread with cooking oil rather than the orgasmic«ahhhhhhh» when you get soaked flavorsome french bead. Service was nothing to write home about, but for £10 each including service, it wasn’t half bad. Will I come back? Urm. yes but probably not voluntarily. It was certainly better than La Tasca but I’d rather spend more money and enjoy my tapas properly.

This tapas bar is owned by a man who was born in England but that haos his heritage to Norther Spain, well known for its fantastic seafood. Well in Meso los Barriles they try to reenact the cousine offering simple fuss free tapas, that are good, but far from the real deal. I have been to the North of Spain and what they serve here is a crossbreed of the original. The serbice is really attentive though, mostly Spanish. Also the boast a selection of Rioja wines that is superb and delicious. Its an ok restaurant not the best Spanish tapas in London.

I remember finding this place a few years back, having a few hours to kill before going to a party in the area. I was hungry, and was feeling rebellious about my vegetarianism(i know; terrible) so decided to try here. I walked in with my friend and immediately regretted it. It smelled like toilet bleach everywhere, and had hams hanging from the ceiling. This may be appetising to some, but i found this wholly unethical and it ruined my eating experience. It is really cheap though, and their Spanish omelet is nice, but the smell will stay with me to the point i feel no need to return.

This is a real cheap and cheerful fun tapas restaurants just on the outside edge of Spitalfields market although part of the old building rather than the new glass extension. It’s definitely an old favourite with a certain type of after work City boy drinker, luckily not the most obnoxious type, people here plump more for Spanish red than Champagne. The food is tasty Spanish which always makes me really greedy and try and order everything with chorizo on the menu. It’s also a fun place to come with friends, the more people there are, the more variations on chorizo you can affordably order.
