I always judge a place on how good their hot chocolate is and this one was lovely. And for only £2.35 for a large to take away I was winning! The food looked good too!

This is opposite my work and is one of the few places to get a decent lunch in the local area without having to venture into High Street Ken or Hammersmith. It’s an Italian deli, but specialises in paninis, wraps, sandwiches on a variety of breads and hot meals. It gets very busy around 1 o’clock, but it’s all hands on deck to clear the queue. The hot food counter queue is usually shorter, but in my opinion the hot food is not very original, nor is it good value(e.g £5+ for lasagne). The salads are nutritious — Tracy’s is my favourite — but don’t leave you hungry, as they’re full of penne and with plenty of olive oil. The breakfast muffins are popular with my team and they are cooked fresh to order. I normally have a fruit smoothie. Can sit in, but I’ve only done it once — it’s easier to take away. Interesting fact: they also do corporate catering!

I visited Mirabell after wandering down Hammersmith Road in search of something nice for lunch. The aesthetics are great — the chefs are all turned out well and the interior all looks lovely and new. The staff were friendly and used gloves to handle the food. I ordered a ‘grilled chicken caesar salad’ to take away. I must say I was quite horrified. It turns out that ‘grilled chicken’ is actually pre-cooked chicken that is chopped up and stuck in a microwave until it reached a lukewarm temperature. The salad involved a pitiful amount of shredded iceberg, a couple of wedges of tomato and a couple of slices of cucumber, with something that approximated caesar sauce. Basically, Subway or McDonalds could probably do better.

Just been to the Good Food Show in Olympia and stopped at Mirabells for breakfast on the way. Excellent selection of English Breakfast options and key for me was the sausages were ‘real’ not mass produced. As well as doing paninis and wraps they also do a restaurant menu of Italian choices — pastas and risottos. Service was prompt and friendly and prices were very good — £4 for full English Breakfast and £7−8 for a pasta. Well worth a visit if around the Olympia area.
