I have been having problems since Feb 2011 trying to sign two new signatories to our business account. Second mandate was signed in May but still can’t cash a cheque without causing a problem. Seriously thinking of changing banks.

I have used many banks, and could explain to you the benefits of one over the other, but I feel this is something an individual should decide for themselves. And with quite a lot of research.
This is a review on this branches customer service alone.
Customer service seems to be something this branch is frightfully short of. An observation made from numerous occasions of both my own experience as well as those waiting in queues.
I have seen people book appointments, arrive early, only to find out 30 minutes later that the person they were meeting with not in the office that day. Couples waiting close to an hour (again a booked time), customers being told staff have no authority and myself experiencing some very unfortunate service.
All in all, Natwest is a fine bank (personal opinion) just not this branch. Avoid.

All banks are evil and most of us have had a problem with theirs at some point.
As a student you have enough to deal with, so a good, easy to use bank account with a hefty interest free overdraft should be a priority.
Natwest can set you up a student account quickly. You get a £1250 overdraft in your first year, rising to £1600 by your third.
With numerous branches throughout London, internet and telephone banking, it is easy to access your money.
If you have a bad credit history you will start with a Solo card that doesn’t have the coverage of a Visa or Maestro, but if you bank wisely within six months you can upgrade to a Maestro.
I’ve had no problems with Natwest and the Camden branch although busy deal with my queries professionally.
