I’ve never rated a church before, but perhaps I should as there is certainly a big difference between them. Our Lady of Pity and St Simon Stock will always hold a special memory for me. It was my parish church whilst growing up in Putney and indeed, I got married here. As vixff says, the building is not architecturally special, with the main focal point being the altar with the crucifix. It is bright inside the church has a very comforting feel. Canon Quinlan, I believe, is still the parish priest there and is a wonderfully friendly man. The church itself is tucked away in a back road off Upper Richmond Road/Putney Hill, but its congregation is quite large and it does have a good community spirit.

It seems a bit weird to be rating a church so the rating doesnt really reflect that me it seems like a good church. I have seen a few RC and CofE and although we would all expect the RC church to be a lot more ornate in this case it is not. After discussing the archtitecture with someone we realised that instead of creating beauty through painted ceilings, statues and generally lots of art this church is a more modern minimalist(!) church with more emphasis on the simplicity of the architecture and the most focus on the altar and large crucifix behind it. There is a good community spirit as demonstrated by the succesful fairs held in summer and at Christmas as well as a youth group for year 6 – 8.
