Paper Moon

I have bought 2 pieces at the shop over the last 2 years, and received one from a friend as a present also.
The shop owners are Chinese, they cut everything by hand, unlike many of the other places which does the fast and mass produced laser cuts. To me, this makes the work more special. The shop is quiet (which a previous reviewer has mentioned) but I think that’s because the owners are artists, not business/​sales people… and maybe there’s a language barrier also… but I find they are very nice when you ask them questions about the works and they show you how it’s cut. Overall I personally like the more quieter/​art gallery feel.

I want to love this place. I want this place to be as wonderful as the popular Ryantown in Columbia Road. But it’s not. It just doesn’t have the same enjoyable vibe. The papercuts seem like Rob Ryan copies, and the shop is so deathly quiet that I don’t enjoy shopping here. If anyone working here had ever said two words, they might just get another star. But it’s a small shop, and it’s quiet. If the only other person in the shop isn’t saying anything, it starts to feel uncomfortable and I want to get out of there as soon as possible.
The stuff is pretty enough. I think the smaller items look better than the larger paper cuts, which all look a bit samey samey, but it’s unlikely I’ll do more than have a two minute nose around before I leave again, empty-​handed. The perfect example of how important good customer service is, or indeed how throwing a smile in someone’s direction can make them want to stick around.
