Solid enough pub. I’ve experienced better– we had to sit downstairs and the bar wasn’t open, so we had no pub atmosphere, felt like we were just in a basement. We ordered some food(at the upstairs bar) and I had to carry both drinks, my set of cutlery, as well as the menu back down all my myself. Food was okay, nothing to write home about. I had steak and ale pie, my girlfriend had fish and chips. The portions were big, but the potatoes were dry, and my girlfriend said the fish was pretty bland and riddled with bones.

Fantastic pub in Knightsbridge around the corner from Harrods. Big bar on the first floor and seating upstairs as well as a smaller bar with more seating downstairs. Had the Cod and Chips which came with a piece of fried fish that was delicious and covered nearly the entire plate. Huge. Come hear with an appetite if you love fish and chips, because this is the place to be. Of note, I discovered a new drink. Try out the cider with a finger or two of blackcurrant syrup. So good you could drink these all day.

Walking around Knightsbridge, we spotted Paxton’s and had dinner there. It was quite crowded, but we managed to find a table in the pub. The beer drinkers among us didn’t know what they wanted, so our server, who was also tending bar, generously brought samples of several to try. Thank you! I just wanted to eat and not spend 20 minutes waiting for everyone else to ask 101 questions. I ordered the chicken and mushroom pie. Although the menu got me with«puffed pastry,» the pastry was rather dry and not as buttery as I expected, but still good. The filling of chicken in a mushroom sauce was excellent, and the whole thing came with a little jug of gravy. Need I say more? My husband had«the cod father,”-a giant portion of fish and chips with mushy peas, bread, and a variety of extras including curry sauce in addition to tartar sauce. Because I can’t stand peas in any way, shape, or form, I declined to taste. But the fish and chips were quite good. In spite of Paxton’s being packed, we had really good service. A bump to 4 stars for that!

Passed by dozens of times on the No 9&10 buses but never stopped. great location and decent ales. I would recommend it for a break from the Knightsbridge shopping and next time, I will likely use the pub for a pint whilst waiting for the 9 or 10 back to Kensington, especially if it is raining. Part of the same chain as Tattersal, a couple of blocks away.

Stopped in coming out of Hyde Park to grab couple of pints and to watch the Olympics, great thing was they had beers on tap that I didn’t readily find in other places while I was in London. Had the cod and chips, it was ok nothing that blew my mind. There is a tiny bar area with pool table downstairs where the men’s bathroom is at. This place was a local that was bought up, done back up by a chain so the menu is chain with a local flair.

Stopped in here when I was on vacation a few years ago. Was impressed a pub was serving Asian food! Great drinks, good pub atmosphere and good food to boot! If I’m ever in London again I’ll be sure to stop by one night.

I am thinking 3.5 stars, but since that isn’t an option, I will go 3 so as not to over inflate the review. After leaving Harrod’s, we were starving and it was very cold outside — so we tucked inside Paxton’s Head. There were a couple of other spots on the street — a Chicago rib restaurant, which didn’t sound terrible exciting(I can get ribs anywhere and it was rather pricey) and Mr. Chow, but ultimately we stopped in Paxton’s Head because it seemed more authentic. Downstairs was a pub area and it was jammed packed — so we ventured upstairs to the Off the Hook restaurant. There was limited seating and just one guy to run the entire floor. He sat us quickly, but we could tell he was swamped. A guy from downstairs and spoke to him, saying I know you need help, but we are swamped too and he would send someone up when he could. We were there a bit over an hour and that help never arrived. I will say the server moved very fast and I felt a bit sorry for him in taking orders, seating people, picking up the orders and being the cashier as well. While running around the floor, he would stop and go to the kitchen when the cook knocked on the door to indicate the order was up. One person in the party ordered the steak & ale pie, one the chorizo chicken with mashed potatoes and I the 3 bangers with mash. All of us enjoyed the good. One person ordered a diet coke, but when she requested a straw it was indicated that there were none upstairs. I ordered a Guinness, but was told there were no beers on tap upstairs — so I ventured downstairs and ordered a pint. Downstairs it was crowded and understaffed as well. Waiting there at the bar it took a while to get the pint, but eventually I did, and was able get one and take it upstairs. Following the meal, we asked for a dessert menu and were pleased to see sticky toffee with butterscotch. Wow — that was incredible and worth the wait. The biggest challenge was the seating was limited and the tables were small. My legs didn’t really fit underneath. Another down note was the bathrooms were tiny. It was just slightly wider than my shoulders and not much deeper than a person standing. In fact it was so tiny that while I was standing there I kept setting off the hand dryer. But it was workable and clean. The server was very friendly and handled the crowd well. There were larger parties that had a reservation, but there were no tables available at the time. He held one behind us, and as we were leaving, he prepared it ours and the table behind for the large party. He was definitely hustling, as were all the employees. The food was excellent, the staff efficient, but the downside was the operations. Being a Saturday and the beginning of the Christmas season, I would expect it to be busy as people leave Harrod’s, so I would expect more staff. That would have alleviated some of the challenges and the need to rush all day by the employees. That would also have ensured straws and tapped beer were available upstairs so that customers did not need to go downstairs on their own and bring it back up.

Uriger Pub in direkter Nähe zu Harrod’s gelegen. Hier findet man, was man sich als Tourist in London so vorstellt — einen dunklen, aber gemütlichen und sauberen Pub mit entsprechendem Äußeren, netter Bedienung und bezahlbaren Preisen. Wir waren auf Fish & Chips und ein Bierchen da, alles prima. Zur großen Portion Fisch gibt es verschiedene Saucen(Tatar, HP…) und sogar eine Gemüsebeilage. Das Ganze für 8,59 Pfund. Es gibt natürlich auch andere Gerichte, außerdem ein Frühstücksspecial für 4,99 Pfund. Im hochpreisigen London wirklich anständig!

I had lunch upstairs at this unusually-named spot, which has been around for about eight years. Long benches surround heavy tables — depending on the crowd, you might be sharing a bench with other diners, hibachi-style. The surroundings are a tad Spartan, but you’re there for a meal, right? I heard there was a renovation, but I haven’t been there for more than a year. While the fusion fare isn’t thrillingly amazing, it’ll do in a pinch, and the friendly, quick service — thanks to our server Rodney — doesn’t hurt. Loved the free chips, the pork ribs were sweet, and the Thai beef salad fit with the summer weather. With the then-murderous exchange rate(when I was there, it was nearly $ 2 a pound), Paxton’s was especially expensive from an American point of view. Price doesn’t necessarily determine performance however, and the food is solidly delicious.
