Piccadilly Hotel

Piccadilly Backpackers est mon auberge de jeunesse par défaut quand je passé à Londres. Idéalement placée à Piccadilly, au centre de Londres, ça me permet de sortir le soir sans me soucier des métros /​bus de nuit. C’est le pied!
Le petit plus: l’auberge n’est pas trop chère, c’est assez exceptionnel pour le lieu. Vraiment, la meilleure auberge du centre de la capitale anglaise!

This was the WORST HOSTEL EVER. I went on a backpacking trip all around Europe and visited 10 different other countries and stayed in a hostel in each. I have terrible memories of London just because of this hostel.
1. STAFF IS HORRIBLE: I arrived at 10pm exhausted because I circled around trying to find this location and when I finally found it, the African-​British guy who worked there stared me down. Are you ****ing kidding me? Who stares down a guest at your hostel?! That should have been the first indication to leave.
2. FEMALE BATHROOMS HAVE VOMIT/​PEE ALL OVER THE ROTTING FLOORS: It was like a scene out of Saw the movie. I think I got SARS just from breathing the air in there. The showers were extremely MOLDY and everything reeked of mildew, vomit, and urine, plus there were rotting underpants on the floor in the corner. Disgusting.
3. SHARED ROOMS EXTREMELY DIRTY WITH BUGS: I chose a 8-​person bunk room. It turned out to be co-​ed, even though I chose a female-​only room (thanks, reception), and people kept coming and going until 1:00AM, and everyone bitched out one Italian guy who stumbled in drunk at 3:00AM for waking us all up.
Barf, barf, barf, barf. This taught me to just book Hiltons in the future because I never want to deal with hostels again.

En tant qu’étudiante universitaire sans emploi/​sans argent, rester à Piccadilly Hotel me convenu parfaitement!

— Cheap. Comme c’était mon premier voyage seule, et que j’étais un peu «peureuse», j’ai choisi la chambre de 6 pour femmes uniquement (20£ par jour, j’y suis restée 10 nuits) et le prix me convenait parfaitement. — très bonne location dans la ville, je n’ai pris le Tube que 2 fois en 10 jours (et en plus on blâme les souliers et non la distance!!). De plus, j’ai eu l’impression d’être en sécurité dans le quartier.
— Les gens qui y travaillent sont sympatiques mais sans plus.
— oui il y a du bruit mais… c’est un hostel donc il faut s’y attendre!

Contre:
— vraiment très sale: certaines vitres de ma chambre était totalement noircie par la saleté. Un matin je suis restée plus longtemps au lit et j’ai pu apperçevoir le «ménage» effectuer par le staff: faire briller la poignée de porte et vider la poubelle.
— lits très inconfortables.
— les lockers de la chambre étaient brisés
— à tous les matins, vers 6h30, la réunion du staff de ménage (20 – 30 personnes) était directement devant la chambre, ce que j’ai trouvé vraiment ridicule (pourquoi faire chier les clients en les réveillant bruyament alors qu’ils auraient pu aller à la salle commune?!)
MAIS malgré tous ces contres, c’était le parfait endroit en raison du prix et de la location.

The pictures looked nicer.
We stayed here for 3 evenings… It was okay, but wasn’t the greatest.
PROS:
— No curfew
— Interesting people there (depending on who your roommates are)
— Very convenient — in Piccadilly; and literally 5 minute walk from Piccadilly
— Clean sheets provided
CONS:
— No free wi-​fi
— Dirty DIRTY washrooms
— Can’t have friends come over
— Expected awesome art work in each room, but it didn’t turn out like that.
— First room we stayed in had no electrical outlets!
Service was okay though — I loved the guy that worked at night from Lithuania. He was great.
It was a bit busy during that time because it was during the time of Royal Wedding, so I can’t say much about how it is on other days.

Eh, what can I say? It was 172 GBP for 6 nights (we were staying during a peak time so the price was a little higher for us). I’ve stayed in much worse hostels before so this place wasn’t that bad by comparison.
Pros:
–It’s in the heart of Piccadilly Circus where all the fun stuff is
–They give you clean sheets
–There’s NO curfew (so you can stumble in drunkenly at any god-​forsaken hour with no issues)
–It’s safe (they check that you have a key every time you walk in)
–They have an elevator! (big plus in my book)
Cons:
–It’s a little run down
–The bathrooms could be cleaner
–Bathroom sinks only have cold water
–They check keys every time you walk in (can’t have friends over unless you’re sneaky about it).
–Cleaning people don’t believe in waiting for you to leave before they barge in and start cleaning (not so good when you’re attempting to sleep off a hangover from the night before).
The check in/​out process was pretty easy for us and we never had any issues with the people that work there. Like someone else said, you get what you pay for. Either way, if you’re doing it right a hostel is just for meeting people, sleeping, and luggage storage. The majority of your time should be spent exploring the city you’re in. Because if it’s luxury you’re looking for, this ain’t it. Just sayin’…

You get what you pay for. But for a broke, traveling college student this is the place to stay.
The rooms are tiny. They are smaller than my kitchen I believe (I got the 2 bunk room). The bathrooms are communal, they have a nazi-​like rule system (no guests allowed), their breakfast was lacking, but they are in the middle of action.
If you want something luxurious, head elsewhere. But if you want to save money, meet cool people your age from different parts of the world, and be in the heart of London for cheap stay here.

Stayed here, dead cheap and close to everything. My biggest complaint is that the lift was broken most of the time I was there and 5 floors up with suitcases is a long haul.
It’s my understanding that they’ve undergone a huge rennovation and they’re updated, cleaner and all that.

Don’t stay at Piccadilly Backpackers (aka Piccadilly Hotel) if you can help it.

Okay, maybe that’s a little harsh. Let’s discuss the good things about this hostel:
1) It’s literally smack-​dab in Piccadilly Circus. Or at least about 25 – 50 steps down one of the off-​shoot streets. Very convenient location.
2) It’s dirty-​dirt cheap compared to other hostels around. I think we dropped 12 quid each on our night there.
Now, on to why I had my worst hostel experience EVER at PB:
1) The staff were rude and uncaring, when you could actually track them down. We waited forever to check in, and then had to wait forever again when we realized we had to get towels from the check-​in counter. And when we were checking out, I think we just left. We waited at the counter for as long as possible without missing our train, and then just bailed. (With the key cards and everything else left on the counter. We didn’t need any souvenirs from this place.)
2) Our room was nasty. There were chunks of plaster falling off the walls, the sink didn’t work, the sheets had stray hairs on them and didn’t smell fresh out of the wash, if you know what I mean.
3) The bathrooms were even nastier than the bedrooms. The loos smelled like pee and vomit, and something else gross and indistinguishable. The shower rooms also smelled like pee and vomit, and there was no hot water.
Then, you know, typical crappy hostel stuff like uncomfortable beds and fellow hostelers being rowdy at all hours of the night, but those happen pretty much everywhere.
Bottom line — unless Piccadilly Backpackers has done a lot in the past year and a half to clean up their act, I will never stay there on my own free will again, nor would I recommend it to anyone I know.

J’ai choisi cette auberge car sa situation géographique est favorable à la visite de Londres… mais j’ai été assez deçu par plusieurs points. Tout d’abord en arrivant, j’eus une chambre au 6eme étage et l’ascenseur né donnait pas trop l’envie d’y monter (assez vieux). Arrivés dans la chambre, nous né pouvions même pas ouvrir la fenêtre correctement et les lits étaient dans un piteux état. Enfin pour les douches nous devions descendre au 3eme étage pour avoir de l’eau chaude sinon au 6eme l’eau était glaçé. Le petit-​dejeuner comprenait 2 tranches de pain de mie avec un café, un jus d’orange, de la marguarine et de la confiture. Le soir, nous n’étions pas dérangés par le bruit ce qui est un bon point vue sa situation (Piccadilly Circus est quand même le quartier le plus animé de Londres). Mais vu le prix très attractifs des chambres nous né pouvions pas demander mieux…

Ideal pour petit budget !
La situation géographique de cette auberge est idéale si vous souhaitez visiter Londres à moindre frais. Vous pouvez accéder rapidement à la rue shopping (Oxford street), au quartier asiatique… La sortie de métro est vraiment à proximité et c’est bien pratique ! Ca évite de se trimballer les valises des heures… pareil pour les arrêts d’autobus qui vous permettront d’aller partout ou vous le souhaitez. Le confort est sommaire mais les lieux sont propres. Les draps vous seront fournis à votre arrivée, vous pouvez louer des serviettes de bain en cas d’oubli. Le petit déjeuner est gratuit: tartines grillées par la maison et gros pot de confiture ou tout le monde trempe sa cuillère pour se servir, café/​thé ou jus d’orange. Il y a une salle Internet ou vous paierez à la réception pour vous connecter. Vous détesterez l’ascenseur qui fonctionne quand il le souhaite. Vous apprécierez la sécurité à l’entrée. Un conseil: n’oubliez pas les boules kyes (au cas ou vous tombez sur un groupe bruyant dans la chambre d’a coté…).

Pour les jeunes
Les deux gros avantages: l’auberge est centrale, très proche de Picadilly ce qui est loin d’etre négligeable étant donné le prix des transports dans Londres et par ailleurs, les prix sont plutot corrects, surtout vu le niveau de vie à Londres. Mis à part ca je né garde pas un souvenir imperissable de l’auberge qui est plutot quelquonque, correcte mais sans plus, né vous attendez pas au grand luxe !
