What is it? Indian street food pop up in the Leicester Square tube station. Having wowed the crowds with pop-​ups at Old Street Station and the streets of Shoreditch, this is the third installment in a series of temporary residencies throughout London.

Who’s behind it? Pilau is a new venture from George Pitkeathley (formerly of Quo Vadis & Holborn Dining Room) and Ollie Norman (ex-​Polpo Group and also son of Russell Norman).

What’s on the Menu? Pilau takes the delicious flavours of Indian street food and sticks them in a wrap for you. For the next fortnightthey’ve set up cam in Leicester Square Underground station. Situated right beside the Chinatown entrance, they will be serving up their Indian street wraps day and night, including butter chicken, lamb & marrow and a spiced paneer.

I really do love all the little pop-​ups you can discover in London, the latest gem I’ve come across is Pilau, an Indian street-​food takeaway tucked away in Leicester Square tube station for an initial two week residency.
Pilau has just 3 items on the menu, which works perfectly for them; butter chicken, lamb, or veggie. These get stuffed into a wrap, along with pilau rice, lettuce, chillies — if you are that way inclined, and pickled ginger.
The wraps are tasty, if a little small, and lack some of the finesse you get from an established Burrito vendor. The one I had was clumsily wrapped which led to yellow stained hands as the wrap dribbled, but I’ll let them off.
I’ll let them off because the wraps are only £4! And they are TASTY! I was provided with a napkin, (although a wet wipe might have been better) and given a glacier mint for when I was finished, a real nice touch.
I really hope Pilau is a successful business for Ollie, who served me my lamb wrap a few days ago. It’s great to see young entrepreneurs taking a chance, doing something they’re passionate about, and they need our support to continue to give us the amazing choice of foods we have on offer in London!
