I came here for a blood test, I left with a giant list of prescribed drugs for my chest infection. It was before the Easter weekend and the doctor wanted me to be prepared for every eventualities. They might be super short on the phone, but once you get inside and get to know all the receptionists and nurses, you know they all have their hearts in the right place. When they start being really nice to you(like the time I puked nonstop for one week by mixing prescription drugs and alcohol) you know you are in trouble, but they will help fix you. The doctors… well some are better than others. You want the really good one? There is like a 5 week waiting list for appointments. A medium good one? 3 weeks. The younger, inexperienced one? Well we can all be canon fodder for skills I guess… My advice is always to go in to speak to them instead of emailing or phoning. The service is like a million gazillion times better this way. They do AM and PM surgery every day with appointments released at 8:30 and 1:30. Beware– closed on Wednesdays PM, it always catches me that one.

The Portland Road Practice has a large, spacious waiting area with plenty of magazines and toys for children to play with. There are 4 doctors available but it is sometimes tricky to get an appointment if you are not flexible with time. I’ve found early morning(8.30am is when they open) or late afternoon to be the most successful times. A really good extra is they have a full travel clinic that will give you prescriptions and administer most jabs needed for travel in Africa, Asia etc.
