I wasn’t sure what to expect of this place. As I entered, I felt I was walking into a New York dive bar. The place is certainly dark and has a worn feeling that somehow adds to the charm. If you had a crazed maniac run through here with a chainsaw and machine gun, it would look just like a scene from one of the newer zombie video games. I could definitely imagine being ravaged half to death by a vampire here, downstairs especially. The basement is often used for private parties. It is a small space with a separate DJ, that makes me feel like I am in someone’s bedroom. The clientèle is young and up for it, with a good mixture of good looking to… meh types that after a few pints of Guiness you singletons would still be happy to drag home. The bar stocks a good array of draught, bottled beers and a respectable list of cocktails. If you want to eat I am pretty sure I remember seeing a list with Thai food on it. I have eaten some great Thai food in pubs and bars, so I’ll be back to sample this. I’ll admit the longer I stayed, the more I liked Positively 4th Street. One question I do need answering. What the hell are the moving paddles on the ceiling for? They certainly don’t circulate any air. Maybe it is a vampire thing? Cool bar. Once I’ve eaten here, this may get another star.

Live music and chat w/the owner makes this place sticky. Being a regular goer, I also had interesting conversations with the owner, Noël, a Japanese British. Noël enjoys cooking and run pubs/bars as a profession in UK and LA. His recent introduction of Thai food at the pub is quite yummy. The whole pub setting is old and fused with an Asian touch. The large sake bottles quietly lying on the corner listening to the music. The Chinese fans automatically swinging on the ceiling mixed with the mosaic lamps deflecting rosy colours. The highlight is of course the Gig. Each of the four fully immerses themselves in the performance, the fingers are dancing on the strings and key board while the sticks are ticking on vibraphone and drum. They connect and communicate with their eyes and music. Often audience gets quite involved as well in this cozy place. They chime in: they bring their own instruments and make pieces with the gig and eventually take over the space. The language for music is universal :)

I’ve walked by here a couple of times, and always wondered what it’s like as you do get some characters outside that indicate either a really good time or just not the sort of place you want to venture into late at night. Luckily, it was the former for me, as two of my friends were hosting a birthday party there in the downstairs area. It was cosy and had quite a lot of space so it could either fit quite a few people in or have a mini dance floor. We just left our coats on a chair, and were able to retrieve them with accessories still intact, and the staff are really nice and friendly and just pretty chilled out. Check out the funky ‘air con’ they have installed. gimmicky, but it gave me a chuckle. Got pretty packed as well, which was cool. That said, a lot were in fancy dress therefore, part of the downstairs invitees… It would be better if you could buy drinks downstairs instead of having to traipse upstairs to get a round…

Hey you! Yeah, you using the online search engine that brought up this Unilocal UK listing. I know what you’re searching for and this listing is what has it… FREEPRIVATEPARTYROOM. I’ll repeat it for Google’s benefit… Private Party Room at this bar, free for hire. Private Events in this London Pub/Bar. Event Room for hire. etc. I know this because I hosted a party here. I had 50+ of my nearest and dearest descend from all over NW, NE, WC, EC, SE, SW and beyond. It took some explaining to direct them to this Camden/Fitzrovia no-mans lands, but it’s a short walk from Mornington or Warren St, so no-one has any excuses. We started early on a Friday and ended early on a Saturday — DJ spinning downstairs and everyone trying the cocktail specials upstairs. When taxis were needed, Addison Lee was next door and for the many who weren’t done yet, KoKo’s beckoned. A good grungey cocktail bar like this is an oddity in London, but many coming from the States would feel at home. Seek it out.

Positively 4th Street is a new themed bar/lounge with the theme of Prohibition America, with a bit of Japanese thrown in. There is a Japanese restaurant, large ground floor bar and cosy basement area(where private events are sometimes held). This is not a cheap bar, but you can get good deals on the cocktails.
