I came here for lunch with my mother today, primarily because we couldn’t believe 97 – 101 The Broadway had changed hands AGAIN. It was cold outside, but the management had done a good job of keeping it toasty inside.
We shared the grilled goat cheese (mmmm, goat cheese) and the marinated olives. My mother had the Pollo E Spinaci and I had the Spaghetti Arrabbiata. I know I know — not particularly exciting. Guess what? It was a Wednesday in Mill Hill, not the freakin’ X Factor finals.
The food was yummy. The menu isn’t massively innovative, but quite frankly no one wants innovation when well-​executed familiarity will do. We were served by a lovely little waiter (whose name escapes me), who kept our water glasses filled and swung by our table with the right kind of frequency. He really pushed dessert on us, and could’ve pretended he cared about working here a little more; on the whole, however, he was a wonderful accompaniment to the meal.
Am I glad The Bell pub is no longer on the premises? Yes.
Did I enjoy my lunch today? Yes.
Would I come here again? Yes.
Should I have given this place five stars instead of four…
