Fantastic shop with great quality boots to last a lifetime, yes I think I will still be wearing my R Sole boots in my 80’s, why not?

Have you ever heard the expression Sloany Pony? This originates from Sloan Square — where all the wealthy school girls spend their Sundays shopping. If you happen to have a pony or horse — what about a pair of high quality cowboy boots. Now this is a difficult one — is it in is it out? The only comment I can give — every girl needs a pair of cowboy boots in their wardrobe. You can dress them down or up. Please do not go for the cheap version — which you find a lot of them around London — if you go for it — then the real leather, real qualities ones. You know those you hardly get off without a shoe horn. Believe me — I have been there. For a fashion show the designer liked the cowboy boots so much, they wanted me to wear them. The problem was I had to change shoes as quick as possible in between which needed a couple of hands to pull them off. An advice from my side — don’t go super funky with the colours though, as you might regret it later — you can’t go wrong with black.

This shop is something of an institution, having been selling cowboy boots to wannabe British urban cowboys and cowgirls since 1974, and has survived the vagaries of fashion. They have a huge stock in a range of styles and skins: lots of calfskin and cowhide boots, many with eleborate stitching, as well as exotics in alligator, lizard, snake and even armadillo.(Not somewhere to take animal lovers, perhaps…). Pointed-toe styles predominate, but they have rounded and square toes too. Women’s styles include boots with jewellery decoration and fur trim, as well as bright and lurid colours. The men’s selection is rather more conservative, thank goodness… Unusually, their men’s selection is as large as the women’s, although of course there is some overlap in the plainer styles. Although they sell some of the major brands, a lot of the designs are from their own label. These come at a price, of course: expect to pay about £150 for a basic cowhide boot, up to £900 for some of the rarer skins. They also sell a small selection of western-style belts and hats. The name, of course, is a play on words: say it out loud…
