Soho Gyms Clapham Common

I never did get the warm fuzzy about SG Clapham. From the moment I stepped through its not so pearly gates I knew this would be a temporary home until I settled myself into a new city and did some exploring about, which would inevitably yield a much better place to work out. That time has come.
Within the first month or so, the gym had adopted this persona with me; I used the moniker «Club Douche». There is still a relic of a DJ booth that exists collecting dust on the upper level, distant memories of bad mixes and progressive-​heavy base, played at deafening decibels linger in my subconscious, haunting me, and to-​this-​day giving me a bit of anxiety and nausea before my sessions. Fortunately, they have ceased all club-​like attempt to have live music and «focus» more on the training bit now. I say «focus» but I really mean «has only a few circuit classes worth going for». But I digress.
Let’s face it: most gyms are dirty, we all know that. What makes SGCC stand out is that they are exceptionally dirty. My sessions last about two hours, I’ve been at several times of the day, and never do I see anyone cleaning, not even the members (after themselves). Yes, they have cleaners come each night, but that is not nearly enough. And btw, Cleaners, whatever you’re cleaning the floor with, STOP using it. It’s leaving a film on the surface which causes one to slide when using heavy weights on the cables. I have mentioned this to the manager; nothing has changed.
And speaking of the members… the gym attracts all kinds, but mostly voyeurs and borderline stalkers. The awkwardly forced eye contact and body scanning is not welcomed at all (especially in the locker room), especially when you’re talking about no less than ten times daily. I’m here to work out, not compare guns or… guns. Flattered, move on.
Lastly, some of these things might be tolerable if there was an underlying sense of effort on the part of the staff to improve things. Sadly, there is not. They seem to lack any motivation whatsoever imo. I’ve asked for a towel after upgrading my account to peak hours, and to my dismay a towel is an additional change. My bad. Instead of just letting it slide one time, the «Membership Counsultant» denied me and then tried to get me to tack on another 7 quid per month onto my account for towel service that I would almost never use. I explained that to him, and his only response: «well, let me know if you change your mind. Sorry» He could learn a thing or two about consulting if you ask me, and frankly also ‘how to keep a member’ bc that pushed me over the line.
Others feign little attempts at smiles but no one is all that sociable, except to each other. Still, I gave it «a go» and with all the plethora of other options in this city (even within a few square miles radius) I cannot in all sanity stay with SGCC. It’s simply, not worth it. Their other locations may be, but certainly not this one.

Raw gymming! big guys with muscles everywhere. Quite pricey

Great gym with lots of clean equipment. The staff are very friendly but leave you alone to do what ever you want. It is well maintained and very clean. Busiy in the evenings but in the day time its fine.
