Let me be honest here, I’m Jewish, which means a special spot in my heart for all things Jewish, including food. When I read the reviews, I was a little skeptical, because simply put, they weren’t amazing. Yet I had to trust my sister, who swore on this place and I was glad I did. It’s very clean, modern, and very kid friendly. Jews love families and take their kids everywhere with them. It was very nice to observe so many families enjoying lunch together. There were many options: all dairy and parve. I opted for a dish of the day: Moroccan inspired fish with veggies. It was very good, probably not as spicy as I like, but it’s just my personal preference. I had a dessert, their specialty made from scratch, it was outstanding. Main reason for 4 starts instead of 5, slow service, having to ask our waiter repeatedly for things.

A decent kosher restaurant and café with an array of salads on offer. Today I asked for the lentil tabouleh with halloumi. But disaster struck when they didn’t have any lentils left. Luckily they were able to make it with couscous. It was quite pleasant and well who doesn’t love halloumi? I wouldn’t call the service attentive, or quick and there was definitely a language communication barrier to be overcome, but I’d recommend SoYo for a light bite with friends if already in the area or in need of a kosher café. The food was good but perhaps not particularly special or remarkable. As the name suggests they do serve fro-yo … or maybe it was soya-yo, but this is a milk and fish kinda place, with no meat so it was probably the former. They also do sandwiches, crepes, desserts and breakfast menu complete with Israeli favourite egg dish shakshuka. Décor is fresh and modern, although I am not a huge fan of the astro turf on the floor. Upstairs there is a second large seating area complete with a large kid’s play pen.

Soyo has definitely improved over the past few years — most noticeably in terms of devote, branding and menu. The salads are pretty decent. I always build my own and is not too expensive(and I tend to go for either the salmon or tuna steak). All in all, for a kosher restaurant not too shabby…
