I don’t know what’s special about this place. I walked in and realized that I was the only Indian customer. Everyone else was British! And this is an Indian restaurant! I think people living in Lewisham just love Indian food. I wouldn’t say that all the dishes are Indian though. They are a bit of a mix. Indian, Bangladeshi, and Ceylon. But I was very satisfied with the fact that it was really good food. Both rich in flavor and the had no faults in particular. I would totally go there again. It is a small restaurant but takes reservations. If you are a Unilocaler and check in you’d get a 20% off voucher. But I was shocked when the waiter said that it was no longer valid and Unilocal screwed up with advertising. So they don’t provide any Unilocal offers. That was not true. I found this place through Unilocal. So they really owe Unilocal a big thank you. They also serve drinks, wines, whiskies, and other stuff. I had mango lassi which was thick and delicious just like I’d expect. There wide variety of non vegetarian dishes. I think British loves Biriyani too. Saw a lot of orders. The Aloo chaat starter wasn’t quite what we expected as it usually comes with a crispy poppadam like thing crushed on top. But instead they served is with a little non crispy chappati. Garlic naan bread had a bit of sweetness to it, which in my opinion is not supposed to be sweet at all. Apart from that the Ceylon vegetable curry(a mixed vegetable curry with coconut based gravy) and the Mutter aloo sag wala(green peas, potatoes and spinach) were both lovely. I’d go there again and would love to take a couple of Unilocalers with me. Let me know when you are around.

I have been coming to Spice of Life for about 7 years now. I recently moved away and so returning to this restaurant was a high priority! The owner is so friendly, always very welcoming and chatty and is genuinely interested in how you are. We had not booked a table and it is normally always quite busy, but we were seated immediately. We started with some poppadoms and then ordered the special meal deal– £12.50 for a starter, main dish, vegetable side and either rice or naan. It is great value for money. I had onion bhajia and my fellow diner had chicken chaat. We both ordered chicken razala for our main dish and shared mustard Bombay potatoes, sprouts with onion, pilau rice and a naan. We were stuffed! The meal was excellent. The curry was on the spicer side, but we had been made aware of that before ordering. I loved all the sauces and dips that come with the poppadoms! My favorite is the carrot, mango chutney and the other orange one, not sure of the flavor but it is amazing. Service is always excellent and I’m sure I will continue to come here for years to come when visiting London.

I really cannot fault this restaurant. In terms of price /value for money; service; taste and location it is spot on. The location is on Lee High Road, between Hither Green and Lewisham and walking distance for me so I’m really chuffed to find such a decent local place! The prices were really reasonable and we ate sooo much and we had alcohol too but the total amounted to something ridiculous like the equivalent of about £20 each at the most! The service was really friendly and courteous and considering it was a very busy Saturday night, it was quick and efficient. The food was delicious and really tasty. If this is the ‘Spice of Life’, I highly recommend you taste it.

This is a great little curry house at the Manor House Gardens end of Lee High Road. It’s certainly cosy, but it’s got a lovely, friendly atmosphere and was nicely busy on the last night(Saturday) when we went along. You can tell it’s a step above your average Indian restaurant by the vast selection of chutneys which accompany your poppadoms — SEVEN chutneys in all, and they were all delicious. The menu is pretty vast, but unlike a lot of curry houses I’ve been to, they also do daily specials of starters, curries and vegetable side dishes. It did take a little while to order, but we didn’t mind in the slightest as we were in no rush, and all in all we spent a very fun couple of hours in there. The food was incredibly tasty, and they let me take home my leftovers, which is always a bonus. Lunch today = SORTED. Seriously, pay this restaurant a visit if you’re ever in the area or if you live locally. You’ll have to book Thursday — Sunday, and you should probably be aware that it’s closed on Tuesdays. At the end of the meal the manager gave us all Spice of Life keyrings, and proudly announced that we were now officially ‘key fob members’, which entitles us to a range of discounts. It was a proud moment for me, and the keyring now has a permanent place on my ever-growing bunch of keys.

I don’t think you can say this is in Blackheath as it is definitely in Lewisham bordering on Hither Green. This gem is one that I visit at least 3X a month and it is my GOTO Curry House. The Sunday night 10 pound for starter, main and side cannot be beat as the dishes change every week and are always fresh. Muhdi(sp?) is so personable and has become someone I look forward to seeing when I dine there. His staff is so wonderful and he is very helpful in navigating through all of the cuisine. I HIGHLYHIGHLY recommend this restaurant.

We’ve been going to the«Spice» for eons. We’ve known Mhudi(sp?) and his brother for a long time. The great thing about this unprepossessing place is the freshness and the quality of the ingredients. The cooking is superb value, imaginative and Mhudi is always searching for new authentic dishes. He loves his business and is passionate about great food. There are always specials to be had to keep the variety going. If you like you curry straight, well cooked, super ingredients — not fancy and pretentious. this is the place for you…

This is, as far as I know, the best Indian on Lee High Road. Great service, great food, people come back again and again. You will ned to book at weekends. I have used for many years and have never been dissapointed. Beats the more pricey restaurants in Blackheath for VFM.

Unfortunately this new Indian restaurant is nearly always empty. In fairness, there is another across the road and a number of others scattered around the surrounding area, so it was a bit of surprise to see new one popping up. It looks good though; a modern, bright sign and all white décor inside, so a friend and I decided to give it a go. Foodwise, it was worth it; it’s not cheap but the portions and quality is good. I recommend the vegetable korma or bhuna. However, the problem certainly lay in the ambience: we were the only ones in there! Never a good thing. I think they need to lower their prices or at least initiate a few special offers to draw the crowds. Then it could be good. For the time-being I would only consider it for a take-away, and really I would always choose the New Darwinium up the road.

An excellent curry can be garnered at this local restaurant on Lee High Road. Stuck along a parade of news agents and kebab shops you could be mistaken for thinking this was just another generic curry shop. The food here is first rate and well worth a try. A good selection of very well prepared Indian food that stands out well above the average. They don’t deliver so you’ll have to pay a visit in person if you want to give it a go, but it’s well worth it. Definitely one of the the best currys in the area.
