The service was good but I wasn’t bowled over with the burger — a slightly tastier version of a McDonalds burger, but certainly not the flame-grilled sensation the great branding promised. The branch seemed very clean and well kitted, though, and the BBQ sauce was good(and on tap).

A sort of slower Burger King equivalent, with a bit of a twist; better burgers than McDo, but not in the same league as a GBK or Byron. This outlet is wedged onto the site that used to be a Wimpy, and whilst the food is OK, the internal layout is poor– the service counter piles up Punters in front of the entrance. Not really worth a special trip.

It has been a while since I’ve been to Steers, but every occasion I have visited has been a good experience! DISCLAIMER: I am slightly biased as I am from South Africa and even just stepping into the door makes me think of home, so that adds a star straight away, no matter the quality! The service has always been friendly, and of course I love the South African accent so that helps straight away! The food is tasty, but my favourite aspects of their menu would have to be the lime milkshake(bright green and definitely an acquired taste!), caramel-dipped icecream cone, and the South African soft drinks from the fridge. Plus, you can buy bottles of Steers sauces — I recommend the monkeygland :)

Averaging out my trips into a 3-star review; I’ve had one very good experience and one fairly«meh». Both of them take-out, I should add. On my first visit, I chose a fairly plain burger, but what I got was more than fairly tasty! I’d put it somewhere between Burger King(that fast-food feeling, but decent sized meals for your money) and GBK(which is a made-to-order, proper sit down meal — but at a premium price). It *was* made to order so took a while to arrive, but the burger was juicy and far better than you’d get from any fast food burger joint. A great dressing enhanced the savoury, flame-grilled flavours. The fries were excellent too, with a sort of spicy-savoury dusting of something. and they let you help yourself to pretty good thousand island and piri-piri bbq dips. I conveniently forgot this piri-piri fascination when I went the second time; feeling hungry, I ordered from their double-patty selection — the«spicy burger» sounded great. It wasn’t. All the lovely meat, dressing, and salad combination was utterly drowned in what can only be described as an ocean of piri-piri sauce. The same bbq stuff that I could dip my fries in as I pleased, was taking over every inch and mouthful of my burger. After 3 bits I couldn’t feel my mouth for spiciness — which is not to say it was overly spicy — but it really was everywhere. I finished the burger having made a mess of nearly everything, and ate the remainder of my fries in a bad mood; by this point I didn’t care for them. So yeah, it’s hit or miss — but still, if you make the right choice, you’ll have a far better meal than had you grabbed a McDonald’s or BK, and at a lesser cost and greater convenience than walking down Northcote Road to GBK or Byron.

I found the cheeseburger to be very lacking in flavour and quality. It’s not even fast food quality. The chips were good which is why they get 1 star.

Steers proudly boasts about it South African heritage and the that they flame grill their burgers. They also serve piri piri chicken in addition to the burgers. I came here on a Friday after a relatively late gym session in search of a red meat hit. I ordered the regular beef burger meal which came with chips and a drink which is priced at £5.50. It is more than the McDonalds or Burger King of this world but cheaper than the Five Guys and Shake Shacks of this world to which I would say it was on par with. It is worth checking what sauces come with the burger because it is not obvious from the menu what trimmings are added in for free. I was impressed with the quality of the burger and fries and the value for money it represents, I’ll definitively return for a takeaway in future.
