Didn’t eat here for dinner but they held a great sushi making course that I obtained online from Groupon. The teacher was the restaurant chef/owner woman. We learned how to make sushi — maki rolls, sashimi, nigiri. Was fun! And as a teacher she was very patient and helpful.

Quiet ambiance but friendly service. Authentic japanese and the Takoyaki are to die for ! The rest of the food is pretty good too. Katsu is crispy, Spicy Yasai a great choice for vegetarians and the meat comes from HG Walter I have dined at Suzu half a dozen times and always enjoyed the food there. The prices are reasonable.

Summary: + Authentic Japanese food + Good sushi + Relaxed atmosphere Overall: Suzu is a great Japanese restaurant in Hammersmith. I used to go there a lot when I lived behind this place. The food is very good. I particularly like their sushi and ramen. Now that’s something special as I usually don’t trust ramen from restaurants that offer other things. I only eat ramen from speciality restaurants that ONLY serve ramen. But for a multi-portfolio generic Japanese restaurants, Suzu’ ramen is pretty good. I like the way they keep traditional sushi style. They have a few fancy stuff fusion stuff like avocado or Godzilla roll(don’t ask me why. But it’s actually quite tasty!). But other than that selection of sushi seems old school.

Excellent quality food, always freshly made and authentic recipes. For example, the katsu kare has vegetables in, which you don’t find in many westernised Japanese restaurants. The atmosphere is good, but I don’t like the big table downstairs because it feels a bit squashed in and you feel like you’re sat in the kitchen. The service can be slow when busy and the card machine often doesn’t work, so be prepared and bring cash!

Good sushi and service. Ambience is low key. Good value for money. They also provide great sushi making lessons for those wanting to learn. Highly recommend it

Ah, Latymer Court. One of the oldest and largest private portered blocks in London when it was built so I was told when I lived there. A lovely 30’s building which maybe looks a bit battered now, situated as it is on this busy main street full of businesses occupying the ground floor. Latymer Court has a lovely feel to it when you get inside. But You won’t get the opportunity when you visit Suzu unless you’re a resident of course. Suzu occupies the westernmost corner of Latymer Court and used to be an old wine bar for years which was popular with the locals. Now it’s a sushi bar, and it’s not a bad one. Inside is bright and airy and has the feel of a place you pop into rather than enjoy a languid lunch. Service is bright and brisk. And the decoration is really rather cool. Lots of what look like original film posters, all in Japanese. But it’s easy to recognise Dirty Harry and the like whatever the language, which I guess is half the fun. The place feels young and busy. When we went in for some lunch there were two groups of work friends happily enjoying whatever came. There is a specials board and on it was eel on rice which is right up my street but as I had just been to the Virgin Active across the road I felt I should not waste all that effort and ordered some sushi. That didn’t stop the missus ordering some of those dumplings too which of course I had to taste. Very nice they were too. Certainly not the ready made frozen efforts you get at some gaffs. The sushi was nicely hand made and very fresh. My one criticism was that each piece was possibly a little on the mean side. But there was lots of choice on the menu and it wasn’t just the salmon or the prawn efforts. I got food envy when I saw someone receive the eel they ordered though. A heart plate and it looked unctuous and sticky like eel should done that way. We left happy with our lot. A good place to pop into for a chat and some well made food in cool surroundings. Much much better than a Wasabi or an Itsu if you can afford the fiver difference, just a nicer, more personal experience all round. But not quite as good as our personal favourite further up the road Yoshi Sushi which I have reviewed countless times on their page.
