TGI Fridays UK

This has to be the most random location of a restaurant, located next to a major road in a disused retail park. On arrival the place was really quiet and none of the staff were around to greet us at the door.
We went to the bar where the person behind the bar was really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the cocktails. We ordered a lemon meringue and raspberry daiquiri, when they arrived the lemon merignue looke bright yellow with a foaming top and tasted amazing just like the pie. I would definitely come back for more cocktails (maybe another branch though, this one is too obscure).
Next we went to sit at our table and ordered some food. The service didn’t get off to a great start and only got worse through the night with 5 different servers in total. There was one point after having our main courses we were almost completely ignored and I could have walked out of the restaurant without paying and no-​one would have noticed.
The food was great and cooked to perfection, but the music was cheesy and at one point at couple decided that they were having each other for dinner which felt really inappropriate for a family venue. It’s a shame that the service and the atmosphere weren’t as good as the food.

We went to the Covent Garden one years ago (probably in 2003 or 04) in a very difficult time in my life and it was their fajitas that got me in love with them, plus the décor… I swore I would be going back but (mainly because of not knowing ever if parking is allowed with a disabled blue badge there) we never made it. I was over the moon when my friend Lizzie practically dragged us to the Mill Hill one last week. They have a before 5 pm deal of 2 courses for £9.99 or 3 courses for £12, or you can upgrade your main course for another — — can’t remember exactly how much:£2.49 or £3.49-, which was what my niece did… and ohhhh boy… the ribs rack is just divine. (this was what my niece order, not available unless you upgrade)
The starter was something we did not doubt for a minute: Jack Daniels Prawn for my daughter & myself, and the same for Lizzie & the variant of Jack Daniel’s chicken for my niece.
Delightful paradise in your mouth is just not enough to describe the prawns… which they call shrimp actually, so I was surprised to find quiet a good size prawn inside (I’m Brazilian and when in Brasil you say shrimp, it means the smallest one you can find)
SO, over the moon with the starters, we went into the main courses. In this one I was particularly happy that my daughter like the veggie burger (which come beautifully accompanied by fries and some salad) She turned vegetarian a year ago but never likes the burgers, no matter where we go, up until this date …) Lizzie had another burger and felt very happy with it.
My experience with my main wasn’t as wonderful… it was OK but I won’t be asking for quesadillas again… I liked it, but nothing that I would wanna have again. It will be the rib rack for me for sure, next time1
My daughter was the only one to have desert (as the offer is either starter and main or main & desert, we share both end of the offer) asked for the brownie, which was delicious though I have to say I was expecting a bit more by the photos in the menu.
One of the highs of this outing was the waiter.
Extremely efficient, fast, polite and nice (made an effort to make us laugh and did have a laugh with us…) the portions were so generous, we couldn’t finish half of our plates (well apart from my niece, that is, who gave her half rack for me!!! LOL) excellent service from this guy, who not only did not laugh or made us feel embarrasses by asking for a doggie bag (my daughter wanted to crawl under the table, but she was happy enough to eat it later!!!)(I’ll make myself sure to ask his name next time so you can be served by him) this are the kind of people who make me want to give tips. :)
The décor is great, we went around 4 pm which meant not too many people but not empty either… great atmosphere, amazing time, and more than well worth the drive (which if you are Lizzie you will make it in the fastest time possible through the most amazing visually routes)
We will be most definitely going back again.
