Very nice and welcome addition to the area which was a bit of a no-mans land beforehand. Seating outside helps and creates a relaxing atmosphere. The food is cooked on the premises for the most part or brought in from independent or specialist suppliers. Prices are average to pricey, compared to other similar establishments, but this is reflected in the quality. However I find the food sometimes to be a little too oily/greasy for me, but I find this generally with bought/ready-made food. The staff can change and is varied so yes sometimes you do get a bit of snooty stiffness but on the whole I find them quite helpful and sweet.

Stumbled across this amazing local deli a few weeks ago and finally managed to fit in a visit. Feeling really weary this morning the combination of coffee and doughnuts was just what I needed and boy did De Beauvoir deliver. I ordered a soya flat white, which is honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. Short and strong, and made using Monmouth coffee. At 2.80, not the cheapest, but well worth it. We couldn’t decide between all the amazing treats, so we bought a selection, a St. John doughnut, a brownie and a crosstown banana doughnut. Wow I just can’t wait to go back and sample some more of the amazing things they sell. So thankful, I only live a short walk away.

I live almost next door to this deli so I really wish I could rate this place better. Firstly, it’s super cramped inside — try coming here on a weekend during the day — it’s packed. They’ve got the essentials in here — similar to what you would expect in a deli. Milk, coffee, eggs, bread, etc — but they’re mostly from independent shops, bakeries, etc. Given their small size, they’ve got a surprisingly big selection of items. However most of the items are overpriced… expect to spend more than you would going to a Whole Foods-like shop. Realistically, it’s not worth shopping at De Beauvoir Deli on a frequent basis. It’s nice to check out and see what unique food stuff they carry. And if I’m too lazy to head to E5 bakery, I’ll get a loaf of bread from here instead. I’d shop here more if it was cheaper!

Lovely local deli that serves good coffee, toast and sandwiches with nice outdoor seating. High quality selection of dairy goods, breads and condiments. Little on the pricey side for the groceries and fresh baked goodies but for an independent deli, it’s worth it. Nice service and always very welcoming.

Sweet deli shop. When entered I felt like I was somewhere back in time — in a best possible way. Loved the interior and the display. Everything seemed really well looked after. There was all sorts of deliciously looking foods and drinks, I just got hazelnut ice cream, which was of course deli quality. HEAVENLY! As said above, all the foods looked fresh and superb, fine quality. So I will definitely be back for more!

5 stars for pastries! If you live anywhere in the area, it’s a treat to have such fresh croissants, muffins and bread right around the corner. Be warned: if you wait too long on a Saturday or Sunday, De Beauvoir begins to run out of the best choices as the day goes on. — The coffee OK, but you can definitely pass if you’re getting pastries to go. — There is nice outdoor seating along the road as well a small set of tables in the back of the shop. — Top pastries in this order Almond croissant Chocolate croissant Apple tarts Any of the muffins — Service isn’t overly friendly, but everyone’s always been nice and polite.

I am a fan of their limited take-away menu. The two creative salads I tried were premade, but tasted sensational, just incredibly fresh. They included a beet salad with fresh feta and a salmon salad with capers and black olives. I believe they made the spinach and feta pastry in house, and it was generously assembled in some of the tastiest and most butterladen(i.e.: yummy!) pastry crust ever. I came back later that same day to buy another.(Shame spiral perhaps, but it really was that good!) While staples were overpriced in the shop for taking home, this deli uses some great ingredients in their premade items, they sell excellent food and bread, and there are more than a few gems on offer making it worth a stop-by. I am obsessed with the tea they sell, including several fantastically colored jewel-tone indian elephant tins filled with fragrant English tea. Love!

This place has hugely enriched our little London village area. I go almost every day to get a lovely coffee, sandwich(big menu) or some ready-made pasta. The staff is friendly and efficient, the produce fresh though never cheap. But to anyone who walks into a posh deli expecting cheap: That’s your mistake, don’t blame the deli. I love it, and I’m glad it’s here.

You will be disappointed if you expect a minimum of customer service when visiting this place. Despite having what seems to be a large pool of staff, the deli is run very ineffectively. Once you do get the attention from a staff member at the front counter, expect to be treated like a skin disease. I have seen it happening to myself and others too many times. Either the staff is badly trained, or the management passes on a negative attitude that sticks to this place like a cancer tumor. De Beauvoir, also pronounced, debovva, is home to a deli that cannot be ‘bovvered’ with their customers.

This place looks great from the outside BUT amongst De Beauvoir residents has a really bad reputation for poor rude service ! Today I decided to push this rumor aside and«Give them a go» ! I went in to buy a food present for a business meeting. It was really hard to get the task driven 4 members of staff to give me any attention… Wen I did pick my items I had to wait for them to stop chatting b4 I was able to pay ! I got no please or Thanks you… as for advice on my purchase, forget it .!! The only words said to me were«That’s yours» referring to my card receipt ! Sad to say«The De Beauvoir Deli Co» lived up to it’s reputation for BADSERVICE… Give this one a miss people spend you hard earned ££ elsewhere !!

It’s not shout from the rooftops awesome but ok. I got a skim latte and the milk tasted sour. c’mon man! the chocolate brownie was rich and decadent. Get the brownie… me is salivatin’ just a thinkin’ about that brownie.

God sent this place to me … new to the neighborhood and always feeling I had to go towards Upper, I was elated to see that there was a home to the East of Islington. Delicious coffee and pastries, decadent ice creams, cheese, and fresh olives … fresh produce, free wi-fi, and a spectacular bottle of Montepulciano. Need I say more? The deli around the corner everyone dreams of.

«Duh boov-wah», «da beaver» «de bow-voire»? Does anyone actually know how to pronounce this? I sure don’t, having been corrected more than once. However you say it(a deli by any other name… etc), it’s a pretty damn good little place. Although not cheap. No sir. But if you’re in dire need of marscapone, feel a hankering for some dried Naga chillies or your day just won’t be complete if you don’t get your mits on a black pudding scotch egg, this is the place for you. And sitting as it does on a fairly nonedescript patch of Islington roadway, it has the feeling of a middle class oasis. And it stays open past 6pm so is a bit of an inner London commuter haven. I’ve yet to try their coffee, but can vouch for their home made onion soup — all savoury-sweet broth and silky onions. It was soup with depth — rare for broth… All in all, recommended.

Lovely selection of pastries, breads, cheeses, meats, pastas, pestos, and luxury ready-meals. A couple of stools at a long wooden counter if you want to have your coffee/tea and croissant sitting down. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood and a good place to go if you need a gift for someone who loves food.

I found out about this place b/c Paul F. wrote his review and then i realized, hey! i live right near there. Then one night my housemates drove past it on the bus and got a good view of inside the place, and told me about it, and my interest was PEAKED! So I provoked myself for 3 days promising myself that I would go. Finally I made myself down to this brand new deli, and I am really glad that I did. It’s very impressive, and has a lot of gourmet foods, but it is REALLY out of place in Dalston. It’s a deli that seems like it would fit right in someplace like Kensington. I ended up getting a cheese sandwich, b/c the only other option was some ham by-product, and I don’t dig on swine. Normally I am used to being disappointed by cheese sammy’s out here b/c normally they are just cheese on bread, but this was a delicious french cheese on a ciabatta with lettuce, tomato and a vinegar, tomato and cucumber salad for just £3.75. I wont know for sure if I will go back there, all the food there looked amazing, but there weren’t a lot of options.

This magnificent little deli is hidden right in the depths of Islington and probably only frequented by the locals there. This will explain how they can charge £7 for a pack of bacon! Seriously I’ve been offered a whole pig for less money. Ok it’s amazing, organic, gluten free, vegan friendly bacon that helped bring down the 3rd Reich but still… That said, the people of Islington needed a place like this, a place they could come for a good coffee(there I go again about the coffee) pick up a loaf of bread with a funny name and indulge some truffle jam and produce made from endangered species(That bit’s not true, it’s just a very posh deli). All I can gather is that when you mention De Beauvoir to the people of Islington they get very excited. Don’t believe me? Check out the Face Book group they made; You know you’ve made it when you’ve got your own FB group!
