The Dictionary Hostel

Friendly staff, great bar and kitchen, you’ll meet so many awesome people and it’s in the middle of a happening spot in northeast London. Would definitely recommend!

I had the best experience at the dictionary hostel! I’ll start with the room. I was in an all female dorm room located on the 2^nd floor. The room, bed and bathroom were all super clean. The beds aren’t the most comfortable, but you’re staying in a hostel so you can’t expect the quality of a ritz. The beds have cages underneath for lockable luggage storage, which is nice.
The only downside to this room is that all of the outlets are located in one corner, and there are only 4 for an 8 bed dorm. That wasn’t a huge deal though, we all took turns and it was fine.
Like it says on the website, this is not a hostel for people who want to turn in at 8pm. This is a «party hostel» and it is located in between (and on top of) 2 bars. Thus, it gets very loud at night with the music downstairs. My room (S) was located right on top of the Translate bar below. We could hear the music and people until 3am. This wasn’t a problem for me (or any of the girls in my room, really) because I was one of the people staying out until 3am, too. If you can’t beat em, join em ;)
The staff was super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good and is served from 8am-​10am downstairs. All in all I had a wonderful experience there and when I’m in London again I will definitely be staying at the Dictionary Hostel!

A great cheap hostel with connecting coffee shop and bar. They even have umbrellas for those who need. They’re good with keeping the food out of dorms and available to pop in at odd times.

Awesome hostel. Has a friendly atmosphere and is really cool in design (our dorm had a swing!). The staff were extra helpful to us organising a hen do, holding the room for us until we could confirm numbers and organising bits for us. They really had the personal touch which non of the other London hostels cared to offer (and we enquired with them all!)
Bar next door is great too (Translate). Again awesome staff and super fun. Plus you get discounts.
Only areas for improvement:
Water pressure
Strong wifi throughout hostel (free would be good too although it’s only £1)
Shelves and individual lights for each bunk

Ich war im Februar 2014 hier. Die Betten sind okay, jeder hat einen kleinen abschließbaren «Spind» unter’m Bett, und meist müssen sich 2 bis 4 Leute einen Satz Steckdosen teilen. Die Duschen waren okay, jedenfalls nicht wirklich dreckig.
Nur das Frühstück lässt ziemlich zu wünschen übrig.

The Dictionary Hostel está muy bien ubicado (en la zona de Shoreditch, un barrio con muchísima onda), y bien conectado para ir a las otras zonas turísticas, a pocas cuadras del subte/​tren; menos de 10 minutos de caminata. Las instalaciones están bastante bien, aunque en mi experiencia fue un tanto molesto que nos cambiaran de habitación de un día al otro, porque en la primera estábamos OK y en la siguiente (una en la Planta Baja, al lado del patio), no tanto. El cuarto era muy ruidoso –y bastante irrespetuosos los pasajeros que allí se alojaban-​. OK, es un dorm, qué se puede pedir, no? La cama bien, nada del otro mundo, con colchón muy finito; debajo de cada cama hay espacio para guardar las valijas/​mochilas. Llevar candado.
Los baños están adentro de las habitaciones y están bien, pero la higiene varía según los compañeros de cuarto.
Hay wifi gratis en espacios comunes (que no son amplios), y el desayuno está bien, con leche, café, té y bagels (tal vez lo mejor!) con mermeladas, cereales, etc. Ahora: el espacio de comedor queda en el subsuelo, tiene un televisor grande y siempre hay algún miembro del staff que limpia y repone, pero al ser allí abajo, no hay mucha luz y podría ser mejor el lugar. En cuanto a la atención en general, no hablan español, pero fueron amables (lo justo y necesario, no mucho más).
Al lado tiene un bar, que es lindo y tiene bastante onda. Te hacen descuento si estás alojado en el hostel.
En síntesis, recomiendo este hostel más que nada por su ubicación (es una de las zonas más copadas de Lonres) y sólo si no se es demasiado exquisito con algunas cuestiones. En general está bastante bien.

La verdad es que no soy muy amante de los hostels o quizás deba ser el hecho que ya me siento grande para bancarme estar en una habitación con tanta gente, pero sacando eso de lado y siendo un poco más objetivo The Dictionary Hostel está más que bien.
Este hostel tiene una onda bastante moderna y cool y está en una de las zonas más copadas de Londres. El desayuno está muy bien y junto al té o café te podes servr unos muy ricos bagels. Las habitaciones son medio un caos y hasta un poco calurosas, pero a comparar con otros hostels, éstas son un lujo.
La verdad es que si les gusta ir a hostels, recomendaría The Dictionary por las cosas que dije antes, o sea la ubicación y la buena onda del lugar, también hay que destacar el bar/​restaurant del lugar que está bastante bueno.

The dictionary hostel c’est l’auberge de jeunesse comme on les imagine. Une ambiance décontractée, des jeunes voyageurs de tous les coins d’Europe et d’ailleurs, des chambres propres et fonctionnels aux nombreux lits superposés, des espaces communs pour boire un coup ou cuisiner, un bar adjacent surchauffé et un quartier hyper en vogue. En venant au Dictonary Hostel, vous né vous tromperez pas !
Attention, toutefois à ce que vous recherchez. Ici, c’est plutôt routard que cosy, festif que repos, l’atmosphère y est parfait pour un city trip entre potes.
Soredish est un chouette quartier, aux multiples restos vietnamiens et autres petites restaurations exotiques.
A 10 min à pied du métro et avec les multiples bus, vous serez en très peu de temps au coeur de Londres.
J’ai beaucoup aimé et je recommande donc vivement cette auberge.
Pensez à prendre un cadenas, des bon boules quies et des tongues pour la douche mais en soit, un peu comme dans toutes les auberge de jeunesse. ;-)a

I came in at four in the mornin and they were happy to accommodate me! The beds are cool and the place is clean: exactly what you need!

I live in London, so don’t normally review hotels or hostels here… but this place is brilliant!
One of my friends booked a room for 16 of us (so we could all stay together for some hen night giggles.) It really was a good place to stay! It is cheap and happy with no frills.
I love:
— They serve bagels from old street in the morning (you have to toast them yourself, and then wash up afterwards… but that’s okay)
— If you forget a towel, you can buy one at reception for a fiver
— There is a large room where you can chill with your friends
— They squish lots of beds into each room, but they have weird huge cages that fit under the beds so you can store all your «stuff» there
I love less:
— The water pressure is rubbish! We didn’t have any water in our showers for about an hour in the morning, and then the temperature kept changing from hot to freezing. I told the lady in reception and she just said that happens when too many people have showers all at once. Therefore my pro-​tip is have a shower at night, or really early in the morning before everyone wakes up!

I know it is a tad late to review this hostel but I love this hostel. It had a very laid back atmosphere and it is close by to many modes of transport to get around. It also is in a very cool part of town where they are bars, restaurants, and clubs to get around as well. Plus it is quite affordable to stay here however I will have like it they created activities to bring people together to socialize and it was quite difficult to find people to talk to since they were hardly in the room but it is all good.
I will not mind staying here again and I love the neighborhood a lot!!!

An amazing hostel staffed by amazing people! Everyone was really nice, laid back and super accommodating. Has everything you’d need from a hostel. We were in a room of 8 with five others the room facing the road, and being located in very cool shoreditch that means the street gets LOUD. Definitely a spot for people staying out late and sleeping in.

Stayed here with 12 friends in a 12 dorm room. For £27 per night the standard was very good. The room was clean and well presented. It was a bit basic but it is a hostel after all.
The bathroom (private to the dorm) was also well kept having only been open for a year. If they can maintain the standards then I would certainly stay again.
Breakfast was included in the price but I had to dash so have no idea how good/​bad it was.

On a budget, I took a gamble and booked a four bedroom dorm room here for 50£ a night.
Apart from no signage, it’s part of a young bar, this place was all hits.
1. Right in the middle of cool shore ditch area, with nightlife and restaurants galore.
2. Clean digs and decent staff, and good roommates.
One of the best hostels I ever stayed it.
