A friend and I bought a groupon for The English Pig which offered two courses p/p and a bottle of house wine to share. We decided to get one starter two mains and a dessert and split everything so we could both try a maximum of dishes. We had the Ham Hock Terrine, Fig, Spiced Apple Chutney(3⁄5), the Grilled Seabass, New Potatoes, Broccoli, Caper sauce(4⁄5), the 21hr Slow Roast Belly of Pork w Mustard Mash, Savoy(apparently the signature dish, but 2⁄5), and to finish the Coffee Pannacotta, Walnuts(4⁄5). The Seabass was definitely the highlight of the night: A very simple, pared-down dish but done excellently. Same for the panacotta. However the ham terrine was really nothing special and the roast pork belly we both actually found somewhat unpleasant. The skin somehow managed to be both extremely hard and chewy and the ham itself had a layer of fat that was neither crispy nor melted into the meat which was quite off-putting. Altogether I’m glad we tried it but I would have been extremely displeased if I had paid full price.

We ordered the pork belly and it was so dry that it took so much effort just to cut a piece out of it! The manu was boring and food was boring too…

Dead quiet on a Friday eve despite all the Groupons and 50% off coupons floating around for this place. I wasn’t at all impressed with the atmosphere – it was really lacking. Went for the special roasted pig – loved the crackling and it was meaty. Nice mustard-infused mashed potatoes and good cabbage. It was a big portion. They were out of the pork chop, which was disappointing, especially because they have so few mains. They also have very heavy appetizers – I was looking for a green salad, but none to be had. We ended up special-requesting ice cream and were thrilled that they had olive oil ice cream and saffron ice cream! But the flavor was slightly off. It is not cheap – if you really like pork and are ready for a heavy dinner with little atmosphere it is a good place.

this place is the epitome of pigfest. the chef loves pigs… as if i didn’t get the idea when i saw the walls lined with pix of pigs.(did you know that pigs’ ears are large enough to cover their eyes?) they only serve pig… with stuff on the side but the only meat is pig. they even have bacon in the crème brûlée. super duper niche restaurant but very thoughtful and creative menu. service is one of the best in london.

Upon arriving, do not be offended by the menu’s warning. Everything is made with pork — it even says that if you’re not interested, they can direct you to other restaurants in the area. They are serious about their pig. And so am I! Everything I had was a delicious and a new kind of porky experience. I had some kind of BLT made with crumbled bacon, a lettuce foam, and an airy tomato paste, though a familiar combo the new way of preparing the ingredients was definitely a scrumptious surprise. My pork belly was just as awesome. I’m sure chefs welcome plates that have been scraped clean!
