The Longroom

I loved this place, though I only had a beer and a grilled cheese so I can’t make a thorough review. However, the beer was excellent and so was the service. I liked the simple comfortable atmosphere (they even had good music, with some Nick Cave playing softly in the background). I look forward to more visits to see if the food holds up.

I am really sad to write this… Last night’s visit in the Longroom was not a good experience at all… The meat was dry I wanted to pour few tears over it to add at least little moist.
But to start from the beginning. When I finally convinced a friend of mine to pay The Longroom a visit, the barmaid surprised us with no fresh mint tea, no peppermint. In fact she said: ‘We have only fruity mix.’ I mean, is it not kind of a staple in a modern pub???
Tea time survived, but then I asked for their salted beef — it was something I was so excited to taste again. When it landed on our table, I thought I’d faint. I got very little pickles and they were super duper vinegary. Translate it, nearly inedible. The meat was far from moist, tender, warm from inside out, juicy, mouthwatering… In fact, it was a complete opposite… Dry, stringy, really salty and lukewarm. Most of the beef ended up between my teeth. The hunger made me finish, but it was a painful experience.
Oh, and by the way, if you see the blond barmaid with a fringe, don’t ask her about beers cause she knows nothing. I asked about a kind of beer with a clearly Bavarian logo on it and she told me: ‘It’s from Pilsen.‘
Firstly: Pilsen is my hometown (in the Czech Republic) and the beer is not Czech. In fact, it was a German beer.
Secondly: The fact, she said the wrong place of origin does not explain whether it is a lager or not, whether it’s light or dark beer and whether it’s mild or strong or doesn’t signify any sort of bitterness level or so…
So as said at the beginning: Last night was a painful experience.

I lost count of how often I made this face:
The beer tasted like sadness. Now I don’t know if this is like a hip cool new microbrew thing I don’t know about, but it really tasted like it had gone off. Like glue. I didn’t even finish it and we all know that I consider orphaning a drink, even a bad one, to be alcohol abuse.
Sofa king loud… Affluent hipsters that don’t move when you say excuse me. The creepiest f-​ing bar of soap in the toilets… like the last thing I want to do when I feel dirty is grip and rub a spherical bar of soap that’s bolted to a wall after someone else did. In other postcodes, that would even be considered erotic, but it gave me the heebies.
I don’t know why I’m not 2-​staring it, I’m probably not going to go back, but it might be better mid-​week.
