The Old Wash House Cafe

A totally normal cafeteria. We ate here because we were hungry and didn’t see much in the way of food around Parliament and Westminster Abbey. We imagine that local workers eat here. So it’s a cafeteria. Normal cafeteria food, normal cafeteria prices, normal cafeteria prices. Nothing to write home about.

This is a brilliant local café which is a hidden gem. Situated within a Church of England community centre (right next to the Cinnamon Club), the café is a social enterprise project and a well run one indeed.
Hot lunches are served at very reasonable prices. Daily specials available (the café is open Monday to Friday not sure what time from but I know it shuts at 3pm). They also serve jacket potatoes, sandwiches (open style sandwiches availabe), cakes and the usual teas and coffees.
Excellent value in comfortable, spacious surroundings. Great place to come to if you are with friends and looking for somewhere to sit down and eat/​drink where large tables are available and space is not on the cramped side.
Love this place. Smart choice for those in the know!!!

Basically, this is a in-​house café/​restaurant in the heart of Westminster, in the Abbey Centre, which is the base of a lot of social enterprises. So, it provides for communities in Westminster. And, as my girlfriend works in the building, I eat there a lot.
It’s hit and miss, the menu varies from day to day so that sometimes you get Duck a L’Orange and other days, well, there’s a cheese risotto. MMMMMmmmm. They have a great French head chef who adds a good deal of panache to your normal café affair.
The Wash House is affordable, charming and a great find. Do pop in!
