The Sun is a proper little pub with a nice crowd and down to earth, cosy ambience. Drinks aren’t cheap but not outrageous either. They really need to sort out their toilet doors — they need a spring to shut them behind people coming out so they don’t stink out one whole end of the pub. On the whole though, a very good watering hole and a great asset to the area.

Hands down the best pub in ‘BG’, though you wouldn’t know it from the outside. But don’t judge a pub by its cover; judge it by it’s beer. –Sage advice– Here it’s pretty cheap though the selection is nothing to complain about, as it’s a small pub. It has a really great feel about it and is dark and candle-lit. Almost a romantic atmosphere(at a pub? who knew!) with lot of seating, very friendly staff, and loungy couches. My bottle of Pinot Grigio was nice considering I am not a huge white wine fan and I had such a nice time here. Perfectly blended divey charm for when you want to go out with a group but not journey into town. I can basically guarantee that I’ll be a regular here. Can’t wait to try out their food!

My favorite pub in this area. The ambience is really nice but a bit dark with candle light on all the tables-I dig it. The crowd is generally really friendly(and a bit eclectic); conversations have been struck up on multiple occasions unintentionally. Music is usually awesome(this is the only pub or bar I’ve been to where I’ve heard Neutral Milk Hotel playing). To top it off, prices are quite reasonable, especially when compared with places nearby on Brick Lane.

I cannot resist a good pub, and The Sun is a good pub. Now, I haven’t had a bite to eat here, so I cannot talk about the food. However, a friend and I were in the area and needed a place for a drink and we stumbled upon The Sun. And it was a glorious sun at that. The bar’s space is a giant rectangular — long narrow hallway with a bar on one side and tables on the other. There are more hidden tables in the back near the loo(and by hidden, I mean you can’t see them if everyone is standing up, but they are there.) Cheap beer, friendly bar, fun all around. The decorations are a bit shabby and it’s incredibly dark, as others have commented, but it kind of adds to the charm. Find a spot near one of the lit candles and enjoy a drink in Bethnal Green.

OMG so one of my top favorite places here in London. Its easily one of the better pubs here in Bethnal Green or the BG as I like to call it. It has such and eclectic group of people is ridiculous! The first night I went it was not much more than bearded hipsters and neighborhood folks who popped in for a cheap beer. The second time I came around it was such a blast, its cool local atmosphere and candles on the table along with the immediate feeling of just laid back really put this place on the map.

Don’t be put off by the shabby(not shabby-chic, just shabby) décor. This little gem serves up the best Ploughman’s Lunch anywhere. Aged cheddar, locally baked bread, home made pickled onions and chutney — bring an appetite, it’s a big plate. Service is very friendly and there’s a great revolving selection of beers to wash it all down with.

This was once one of those«net curtain» type pubs you would walk past and not even consider entering. Now transformed by a welcome light touch redecoration that is really well judged so as to make the place still feel like a pub, not a marketing team’s vision. Hearty decently priced pub grub menu. Candles on the tables, has WiFi, takes cards. Friendly laid back staff.

I love this pub. The ambience is very quiet, it’s possible to have a conversation without shouting, there is a nice couch and candles on the tables, definitely the type of pub I choose to spend a cool Sunday night

This is a handy pub to know on the main street round bethnal green. They serve some quite decent ales and they vary the selection too. The pub layout can feel very constricted when busy though. It is so narrow. Better than anywhere else I have found in the area. Used to be a bit rough apparently but has undergone a welcome transformation of late.

Went in here for a quick pint and the place was quite rammed for a Thursday, They served a good selection of ales and beers, the guiness in particular was the best I have had in a while, the staff were friendly and quick to serve and the locals who seemed to be mostly a young crowd, of a range of nationalities were friendly enough to share seats and tables which made for a very interesting sociable evening. Perfect.

This is a place if you want to chill out in a cosy english traditionnal pub. Drinks are quite cheap too compared to normal londonian prices :). If you live around you should definitely pop in for a coffee :)

The Sun is actually one of the better pubs in the Bethnal Green area. Located on Bethnal Green Rd., it used to be like most of the other dive pubs in the area, but new management have made it an all-round better place and removed it from the dive pub category. This place is just what Bethnal Green needed, a place where you can hang out that isn’t to posh but isn’t too scummy. There are a lot of freelance workers in the area who would really appreciate a pub with wifi, coffee, and an environment that is conducive to work. The Sun is the answer.

I never even laid an eye to this pub until I received an birthday party invitation to my gay frieds parties — that was held in this pub. I was worried. We all know how the pub life at its worst can be, and I am usually scarred even drunken women this neighbourhood. Does he want to get killed or what? But the very pub looking pub was actually a perfect choice for his parties. Once I noticed that the lady behind the bar was actually a man and the Eurovisions were full on the tv, I kind of got the picture. But I still can’t be wondering how often some east end gangsters find their way in from the streets and things get difficult? Or maybe I am the only one missing some significant sign outside. But after that I have been going there regularly. From all my locals pubs, I consider this place my local in the true meaning of the word. It is always quiet, no loud music, no one fighting. Sofas and candle lit on the evening. Harmony and piece.

Until recently The Sun Inn on Bethnal Green Road was frequented only by those aging locals who’d noticed its favourably close proximity to several bookmakers, and was only really frequented at all when there was football on the TVs. Look closely and you can see the ‘interesting’ carpet belies the previous incarnation, but the place has been transformed by a new owner, candles, excellent affordable coffee(and the accompanying chocolate marshmallows) and fast wireless internet — not to mention removing those TVs. Now it’s a really friendly, relaxed place popular with local artists and designers — somewhere to meet with friends for a chat or spend a bit of time working(although maybe a little dark if you don’t have a laptop). A surprisingly nice place in the midst of Bethnal Green Road and very close to the tube, and they’ll even serve you Coke(cola, this isn’t Shoreditch) in proper glass bottles — you should go.
