What an amazing place! Quite hard to find off a square mainly surrounded by houses. Turrets to the side of the large brick building and a massive iron gate on entrance. Downstairs is an open bar with comfy seating and reasonably priced drink and food. Upstairs is a nice stage with a big open area, a a few seats available around the elevated outside area. Very intimate, great venue. Will be looking out for gigs here for sure!

The Tabernacle is a strange place. I had heard of it when I moved nearby, but it wasn’t until a couple of years ago, I discovered it for myself. Completed in 1888, the Romanesque red brick and terracotta building has been decribed as the ‘Taj Mahal of North Kensington’. When the area went into decline in the 1900’s it ws the centre of many slums in the area and race riots. In 1975 it closed down as a church and taken over by the local council. Demolishion plans were twarted and it was converted into the multi use community building that it is today. Joe Strummer of the Clash appeared here in the 70’s and it also hosted gigs by Misty in Roots and George Melly. In 1995 it closed to be upgraded, to reopen in 1998. It is still going strong as a multi-use venue. They hold art exhibitions, concerts, dance lessons, fitness and sport activities as well as concerts. It’s a great place to go for a drink or snack, and is very reasonable. It also has a full bar. I like sitting outside when the weather is nice in the large courtyard in frotn of the building. I highly recommend you visit this place, should you be in the Portabello Market area.

Fan-bloody-tastic. A quirky and fun place set in Notting Hill, I wasn’t expecting much from the bar-kitchen when coming for a comedy show. Luckily I was given more than could have been hoped for. After a swift tube from work, I met a friend for an evening of comedy(very good it was as well, but that’s not why we’re here) and needed something to eat. A nice pint of lager was supped upon while waiting for my steak frites, which arrived with some lovely grilled tomatoes & mushrooms, as well as some very chunky chips. I had to inhale all of the above as we were being chivvied into the show, despite which I mightily enjoyed the food. Surprising, good and surprisingly good. Definitely worth the short walk off Portobello Road to get a decent feed. The garden was lovely in the summer’s evening, and it’s hard to think of a reason not to go back on an evening when there’s no show to see. The bar-made soft drinks also looked rather good from the menu, I hope I can tell you more about them in the not too distant future!

Good little music venue, but the bar takes ages. No real ales on tap. Should have a cash only till. Everyone pays by card. I’d go to another pub close by and turn up just before gig if went again. 4⁄5 as music venue. 2⁄5 for bar. Didn’t try food.

A community center that feels like a church and has a restaurant. But I couldn’t care for all of that, for all I did was eat here. I was happy with the food. I got the seared tuna steak, and I love seared tuna steak, and I still loved seared tuna steak after eating here. Knowing what I know now, would I do it again? Yes.

Well I came here twice, one to watch Emelia Sande and another up coming singer. My recent visits was on a Friday night and it was busy and lively. Their was a DJ playing reggae, soca etc. The bar was busy and their was not enough bar staff, so their was a bit of a wait. We had bought A buy one get one free Rum Punch which tasted great, but was put in small cups which was rip off for £7:50 we basically paying for two drinks. They also have a a Caribbean inspired menu, which I decided to try, to my disappointment the chicken roti was big but bland but had a lovely price tag of a fiver. The Tabernacle venue is great, I like the outdoor seating, i love the fact it is in a residential area, with a basketball court in front of it. The venue also has theater and dance studio, an art gallery, and meeting/rehearsal rooms. The actually gig venue is good, and intimate on both occasion I got to see singers close up providing no one is fussy, it easy to maneuver through the crowd. They have a balcony upstairs, with an added VIP bit. The Tabernacle serves the local community well and is a great place to hang out even for after work drinks. I still stand by giving it 4 stars all the other issues can be resolved like adding All purpose seasoning to their Roti and getting more staff. I’m sure ill be back for some other music gig.

My husband and I had a wonderful night here. We were served by a lovely girl who made everything for our night to be memorable. The food was delicious, seemed and tasted freshly made. The interior design was perfect and matched the style of the place.

Had a great night there watching the IF campaign Fashion Show. What a great venue! Haven’t ventured across town to this spot before. Really worthwhile.

One of my absolute favorite places in all of Notting Hill. Part caribbean-culture /community center, part restaurant(with authentic Trinidad /Guyana style roti on the menu! Almost as good as Surinamese roti!) part cocktail bar, part stage where great artist perform, part coffee sipping place for local Notting Hill yuppie mums(when the sun is shining, it has a great terrace). Prices are very affordable, it’s a rather unique and dare I to say the words: ECLECTICMIX. Go see for yourself, it’s really a sweet place to hang out. Free wifi. Ask for the password, it’s the name of the Tabernacle’s signature lime bomb cocktail!

It’s a music venue but much more. A community center with a café on the ground floor. Then you go upstairs to the auditorium stage thingy and there’s also another door upstairs labeled«Studio» but Im not quite sure what kind it is… music? art? The food everyone was eating looked yummy and the vibe was very welcoming. I felt comfortable walking around and nosing through different areas and no one seemed to be bothered which is nice.

The Tabernacle is a really cool West London venue situated on the upper floor of what I presume to be a former church, set back from the unassuming side street it’s situated on. The facilities are great, not only is the venue nicely set out for a small capacity place(around 450 people total) but there are music practice rooms and a downstairs bar/restaurant. I got to see the fabulous Miike Snow perform at the New To Q event last week and it was a really special night because I’m sure I’ll never get that close to that band ever again! They were absolutely brilliant and the lovely intimate venue played a big part in my enjoyment of the music.

It took Mum to come all the way from Iceland for me to return to the local landmark that is the Tabernacle. It has had a colourful past and was closed for a while — too long. Good to see it has been restored to beyond its former glory. What used to be a essentially a community centre has been condensed into«Carnival Village» which, as the name implies, is a registered charity in aid of Notting Hill Carnival. The visible sign of it is a funkly little shop next to the bar. The new owners have turned the place around and are repositioning it as a music and arts venue, and what a perfect little place it is. I will definitely come again, and not just to watch another band. The bar has been completely redone and now has a lovely relaxed feel to it. I was taken aback by the professionalism of the bar staff — they were more attentive, faster, friendlier than most fancy(read: a lot more expensive) places I have been to recently. The only small let-down was the dish of nacho chips we ordered to go with our wine. Perhaps they ran out of the real thing and just popped round the corner to Tesco? Lame. Not enough to put me off for good, though, the main dishes sounded intriguing, and I will definitely be back to try their Caribeean curry. Looking forward to upgrading my review to 5 stars :-)

This non-profit community centre in which I spent many an hour as a child has now all grown up. I guess it needs to be re-listed as a bar/restaurant now. A beautiful courtyard, with a lovely and sympathetically created bar inside. Lovely cocktails, at reasonable(it is Notting Hill) prices, a tasty bbq and friendly if a bit scatty service. Simply by virtue of the huge open space this place is a winner, and I noticed they did reasonable private hire rates also, and could see it’s potential for great parties. They do what sounded like a good breakfast but I’ll save that for my next visit.
