Don’t waste your time. Haven’t been treated that way, well, ever. You don’t tell a customer to f*** off if the bottle champagne they order isn’t cold. Seriously rude. They were going to decant the bottle into a plastic jug anyway(because the football crowd was there). Probably not the best place to order a champagne but if they have one on the menu for £32 then people are going to order it. If you really want people just to order beer then only offer beer. We had to leave without drinks or food as they refused to serve us after this little episode. I have been in hospitality for 12 years. This kind of service is really unacceptable. Very dull pub menu. Uncomfortable seats. Big strange vacuous space.

Spacious and relaxed on a weekday but a packed booze hall during matches. This laid back pub can be whatever you want it to be.

Went here last night around 8pm and they told us they were no longer serving food because the chef had worked too many hours this week. The bar staff were friendly but I was very disappointed that they had no food.

2011 update I’m adding on two stars here. I came back with some friends recently and there were more ales available and other interesting drink options including a cloudy cider and some less common keg stuff. They were impressed, we all enjoyed ourselves and I’ll probably be back again. ******************************************************** *2010 This pub looks very niceand is very spacious. The word gastro is on the lips very quickly, and that does seem to be what they are aiming for here. The other reviews seem to suggest that is the point which I was missing. I do occasionally eat in pubs, but I’m always there in the first place for the beer! They used to carry more ales at this venue, but when I visited it was just the onean average pint of Landlord. I wasn’t particularly impressed to be honestbut it could be a lot used to be an O Neils!

Went into here on a Monday night with some friends. I had no idea about it, so didn’t have any expectations. I ended up getting a gammon and chips, with maple syrup, which at £5 seemed very reasonable.(Even more reasonable seeing as someone else paid for it!) It was well cooked, and the maple syrup/mustard combination seemed to work really well with the gammon. The service was friendly and swift, although this was a Monday night and the place was sparely populated. No idea what it’s like on a Saturday evening.

Formerly O’Neills, Temperance is a recently refurbished quality gastropub, ideally located near Putney Bridge tube station, alongside the river(and start of the Oxford /Cambridge boat race!). Set over two floors, the décor is a mixture of traditional and contemporary. Unusual, one off pieces of furniture are mixed in with standard bar stools. A black, metal ceiling is offset by wooden floorboards and candle-festooned tables. The menu serves quality pub food, but where Temperance really comes into it’s own is its quality Sunday Roasts. Lamb, Beef and chicken all feature as do gorgeous vegetarian gratins and a delicious, perfectly cooked salmon steak, served with crushed new potatoes and asparagus. They do recommend reserving a table for Sunday lunch, but I’ve found it easy to be seated if you’re just a couple, without booking. Service is friendly, but a little slow. The range is good, including organic and fruity beers(Fruli, plus apple and mango flavours) and a good range of spirits. A little pricey for an every day visit, but a good pub for a special occasion.
