Toast Rack recently opened round the corner from me, and I was pretty excited to go. However, while the place shows huge promise, it’s not quite there yet. To be clear, the food has at times been amazing — and well priced versus the quality. But they’ve had a few kitchen issues and that’s hurt my trips the both times I’ve been. One time the food took far too long to arrive, the other time we bought a loaf of bread and it was fine but not worth the premium price tag. I also once ordered a bloody mary, which was one the menu, and ended up with what tasted like a weak tomato juice. The service has been great, and when things have gone wrong very apologetic and amenable. At the end of the day though a restaurant/bakery is only as good as its kitchen and they must get rid of the inconsistencies here. I truly believe that they are on to a winner — they almost have the perfect combination of food, service and atmosphere. I hope that in future I can rethink my review once they have worked out the perfect formula.

This place has opened up just by Wandsworth common, it’s probably been open about 1 month and I’ve been there twice. Really lovely place been for brunch with my bf twice, first time I had the American style pancakes with Greek yoghurt, bananas and maple syrup, they were really delicious, light fluffy not too sweet so I didn’t feel like I was on a massive sugar high afterwards. Last time I went on 5th July I had the veggie breakfast, it was really good, they didn’t just palm me off with a load of eggs and a few soggy mushrooms, there was avocado, spinach, the toast was on homemade artisanal bread. Everything was cooked well, was one of the best veggie breakfasts I’ve ever had and not one sorry looking veggie sausage. They have loose leaf tea(always a winner) and they serve the most amazing looking cakes, they also do brunch cocktails(if anyone fancies a little ‘hair of the dog’), but the quirkiest thing about it is they have toasters on every table and you can order unlimited toast, they provide jams, spreads, different breads, definitely going to try that next time. The only change I would make is although they have table service you pay at the counter but they don’t seem to have any table numbering system, so it’s a little confusing describing where you sit and what you ate. I can only imagine that the busier it gets the more confusing this will become, a table numbering system would make it far more efficient for staff and customers. Just to add the staff are really lovely, friendly, welcoming they are really going for the homely vibe/retro 50’s vibe and it really suits the place, it’s a nice addition to Trinity Road which has a few breakfast places but mostly shops.
