Nice location for the Mexican chain in the historic Leadenhall market. Cool upstairs seating as well to peer down at all those unfortunate enough not yet to have their meal in had! Great guac and the barbacoa is also worth your 70p extra. Overall, it’s a standard burrito place in Mexican-cuisine-lacking London. Pro tip: there’s a separate ordering station downstairs that can drastically reduce your queue time. (bonus) Pro tip: avoid the mice that I’ve seen on multiple occasions scurrying around in the lower seating area. This is likely common in many of the old Leadenhall market buildings, but a bit unsettling when you’re biting into your food…

Tortilla produces a stunning grilled chicken burrito, the best I’ve had in London by a long shot.

Tortilla ‘Real California Burritos and Tacos’. Really fresh, tasty food and not too heavy, a perfect lunch time spot in Leadenhall Market! You can choose your filling, a choice of rice, beans, meat and salad. I always have the Naked Burrito, a box filled with rice, beans, onions, slow cooked pork, salsa, guacamole and sour cream(minus the tortilla). I just love how light and fresh this dish is! Can get very busy at lunch time, don’t be put off by the queues however as there is a counter downstairs!

The UK’s version of America’s Chipotle – and that’s not an insult since I think Chipotle’s great. Same meat offerings, same bowl or tortilla choice, same toppings. The rices are a little different, but still tasty. Beware that the line(queue) gets quite long at lunchtime!

Let me begin by saying that I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. My family comes from Mexico City so I know GOOD Mexican food. We were pleasantly surprised to find this place in London. The burritos were absolutely delicious. The hot salsa wasn’t as hot as I like but then again, I love super spicy salsa. I would most definitely eat here again and recommend this place to anyone visit London.

Leadenhall Market is a picturesque hub bustling with business types as well as tourists. I’ve burrito’ed it there twice in the last week and have been to other branches many times and have yet to be disappointed. In the burrito battle of London I’d give the ribbon to Chipotle for taste yet Tortilla comes out as the overall champ largely for its excellent value for money. On that note however, the medium and large ‘bowls’ come in the same sized container and pretty much have the same amount of good stuff in them. Chicken is my firm fav and even got a little taste of the pork thrown in there for good measure too!

I was lucky enough to be given a free burrito voucher by the folks at Qype for Tortilla, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pop into Leadenhall Market and try out what was on offer over there To start with, the whole setup was a little incongruous(a bit like looking at Egyptian artefacts in The Louvre): semi-authentic Mexican food in a 19th Century British building. But I suppose what’s important is the actual burritos, right? Generous portions and a good tight tortilla wrap made this seem initially promising. The touch of having tomato-flavoured rice was a good one, and helped ensure that the first mouthful of burrito was tasty. In terms of actual menu offerings the fare at Tortilla is in line with the usual range most places have; chicken, steak, pork, and vegetarian. Unfortunately the chicken I had was fairly dry & stringy they’d opted for shredded chicken, which is harder to keep moist than grilled chunks. I wasn’t watching the sauce distribution at the time, but it turned out that all of my spicy sauce ended up down one end of the burrito, meaning that I finished by chowing into a hot salty pocket. And nobody wants that as a finishing gambit. Tortilla’s not bad just a little more attention to detail, and it could have been actively good. Still, it’s the best thing in the area I’ve found so far.

Cant recommend highly enough! Have been here twice to get a fajita. Great tasting, mouth watering and relatively filling fajita. Be prepared to talk away feeling very satisfied. I chose the chicken and steak(on separate occasions), with lime rice, sour cream, grated cheese and hot salsa. Never had occurred to me to have rice in a fajita before but damn! Very nice snack. I think if youve ever enjoyed a fajita then you wont be dissapointed here. Large is around £7 I believe(50p more for steak). Not the cheapest, slightly above average. It is however certainly worth the indulgence from time to time. The city has many many good sources of food around so once in a while its nice to come back here and enjoy.

I know burritos. And burritos know me. In fact, they rushed to greet me at Tortilla with a rhetorical, «Where the hell have you been?!» My amigos — the burritos — know how to keep me satisfied in their presence: quality, value for the money and decent proportions. I don’t mind paying for decent friendship, especially when I’m treated so well in return.

Smack my wrists as I attended a burrito masterclass on Valentine’s Day(what a beautiful day to be making burrito’s) with my other half courtesy of Qype. We had so much fun, lots of margaritas and came away stuffed. I did write up a full review with photo’s here I hope you enjoy. Thanks again to T and the team. Can’t wait to go back for lunch(I feel a Tortilla Thursday coming on!)

Great fun with some amazing people around Was there to film the night and boy wasn’t it lovely. So much energy and fun!.. All the hustle bustle, everybody competing in making the perfect guacamole and burrito. A good talk from the founder about the company and burrito making. All in all a great fun. Would love to have more of such stuff! The night ended up with a fun mexico quiz and I proudly announce that I was the part of the winning team Hoxton Salon and won myself two burrito voucher and a bottle of sauce. Loved it all. The burrito revolution is HERE, get on board

Tortilla is a really good Burrito restaurant. I was one of the lucky few Qypers to go along to Tortilla on Valentines day, and had a great time learning about the company, learning how to make guacamole, and trying my hand at burrito making. What I enjoyed most was the food I love anything spicy and the burrito(I made) delivered the right hint of heat I like(you can choose from mild, medium and hot), that added to the deliciously seasoned pork and beef made the experience. I also liked finding out(from the owner and head chef) about the care and attention that goes into creating the food(eg all food is prepared on-site). The Qype event itself was a hit, with free flowing Strawberry and Raspberry margaritas(even if they were not that strong), a love/mexico quiz and a chance to sample death and pain(the evil hot sauces).

If you like delicious meat in your burrito, these aren’t the burritos you’re looking for, go about your business. Let me preface this with saying that I’m from California and I know burritos, and based solely on the food not the experience I had, I would say this is not worth the dinero you’d spend IF you are a meat eater. This review is mostly about the meat. The heart and soul of a burrito is the delicious marinated and awesome meat. The meat in this case was bland and had no flavour what’s so ever. I met the owners and they were really really lovely, I guess they’re from San Francisco, but they missed the mark on this one. The guacamole wasn’t spicy, had no kick, but that’s OK because we’re in London. I figured it wouldn’t have any kick at all. if you need spice there’s tons of Chalula hanging around for your purchase, which by the way is priced pretty well. I should know, i’m a hot sauce snob and really love chalula. The black beans also had no flavour and were bland and left your burrito watery. The size of the burrito was pretty good. Tortilla is a healthy burrito place. Which, to me, defeats the purpose. What gives Mexican food that amazing flavour is the lard and fat, lets get real, its not good for you, but its what makes the difference in Mexican restaurants. Tortilla is the same format as Chipotle but not as good. Sorry guys, I really had a great experience with your restuarant at our Unilocal event but i cannot lie about a review. I haven’t yet, and I won’t start now. Next time i’ll go vegetarian here.

Oh Tortilla, why do you hurt me so? After an amazing night at the Unilocal Elite event not too long ago, Tortilla Leadenhall was at the top of my list to satisfy a lunchtime burrito craving. So, today, when the craving struck, I wandered down the street to this little burrito shop. Ordering was a breeze, the ingredients looked fresh(from what I could see… too much steam covering the glass!), and the staff friendly. I was in high spirits as I walked back, eager to dive into my little bundle of joy. The first bite was full of savoury rice, crunchy onions and peppers, and creamy guacamole. Then it all when horribly wrong. Having sprung for the steak, I was doubly excited for this burrito. But the meat was truly terrible. Massive chunks of gristle with barely any meat attached dominated the scene. It’s embarrasing having to spit out some of your food while at work but no way was I going to even attempt to swallow that life-threatening piece of tendony«meat». It absolutely ruined an otherwise excellent burrito experience. I expect that paying a bit extra for something(steak is an extra 50p) means my burrito will be a bit better, not the bane of my existence. I don’t know what to say Tortilla. This could have been a beautiful relationship but I worry I can’t trust you anymore. 1 star for the burrito, 1 more for the fond memories and the hope this was just a 1 time thing.

Gorgeous steak burrito. Have the steak. Go on. I had a ‘shall I go veggie today?’ moment, but I made the RIGHT decision with that steak, ohhhh yes. Marinated and chargrilled, it comes in delectably tasty, juicy medium-rare strips. Slather on all the good stuff and you’ve got yourself a fat and sexy parcel of yum. Tortilla seems to care very much about the provenance of the ingredients, and I’m no burrito expert, but I was convinced. My food was fresh, lean and flavoursome, and I felt like I’d had a wholesome meal which just happened to be rolled in a tortilla rather than presented on a plate. I appreciated the fact that there were two sizes of burrito to choose from. I had the smaller one and it was plenty — very filling. I came to a Unilocal event here expecting a bland fast food lunch place on one level with a counter and a few cheapo aluminium chairs and tables. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this place has character. There’s the restored Victorian shop front in Leadenhall Market, smart modern interior(with a buzzy mezzanine level visible above the main counter), and a large softly lit seating area downstairs with wooden floors, exposed brick, another food counter and a bar. Excited to hear that a South London branch is being planned…

What to do, what to do, when you’d give this burrito 3 stars in SF, but it’s the best in London? I’ve given it the grudging fourth star. Fab guacamole. Points for being healthy. decent enough meats and whatnot. On the downside, there just seems to be a miss in the Umami department. This could well be the lack of butter and salt and extra flavourful oils. They do a good job, but I want more. Rice and beans is the foundation and this is where it falls a little flat. But, then I was raised on rice & beans and kind of picky, so this is a grudging four stars. (plus the owner had the cojones to do this when I kept thinking about it. Props)

A big warm tortilla jam-packed full of burrito goodness — oh my lord I can see why this little gem in Leadenhall Market has queues coming out the doors at lunchtime! I had tomato-ey rice, chicken, blackbeans and everything on top — salsa, sour cream, lettuce, cheese and of course a big ol’ dollop of delicious guacamole. Wow — tasty tasty Tortilla! And what did I wash my yummy burrito down with? Margarita of course! Icy, slushy, refreshing margarita from their ever-churning slushy machine. Deeeelish! Glad this place isn’t near my work or I’d be the size of a house eating here every lunchtime!

Burrito heaven! Within spitting distance of Monument Station is hidden in the aisles of Leadenhall Market, number 28 is home to Tortilla! This bad ass joint has brought the best of two world and made it their own. Don’t get me wrong, I like straight up Mexican food, hey, I even like a bit of Tex-Mex but… there is a new kid on the block and his name is Cal-Mex! Bring us the beach food freedom from California and all the robust taste from Mexico: lighter, flavourful and not dripping in sauce. Not being an over saucy lass, but loving heat and bold flavours that are not afraid to stand up and be counted ! Placed in front of me was a feast of rice, beans, braised piggy, chili sauce, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, more chillies and salad all wrapped up in a soft tortilla wrap. It was huge! As I am a super piggy I coupled this with a basket of nacho and a margarita! Now let’s talk Margs, made with silver tequila, it’s dispensed from what I can only describe as a slushy machine. So let’s review, an alcoholic slushy machine, which to me means two thing; 1) Margarita’s on tap and 2) party! It’s like that moment when Willy Wonka let everybody go crazy in the factory but for adults! Highly recommend this cheeky little spot and I will be back as soon as possible. The staff are amazing, it’s like going an hanging out with your mate!

I have been absolutely raving about this place since I first saw the queue outside it last November. I have since had at least 3 free burittos(garnered by ordering 10) and the amount of times ive forgotten/not bothered to get my loyalty card stamped makes me wonder how much ive really spent in this place. Since then it has become absolutely ridiculous between the hours of 12 and 1.30, with 20 metre queues outside. Us regulars know the secrets to by passing this, and you will also work it out after being so loyal! Couple of things of note. The manager Jesus really is a star as stated in other reviews, always busy but aware of any problems in the«line» that might be occuring(usually only happens with new hires who arent used to wrapping the burritos at the end of the line!) perfectly charming staff and im really not bothered when the end result is 20 minutes of pure joy. The second thing is the atmosphere in there, only a place churning out great food is this packed, id say its one of the hottest places in London(specifcally the financial district) if not the hottest, for lunch.(this includes the vast variety of different sauces they offer to accompany that BUZZER! So — 1. Seriously tasty/Extremely generous even in the medium buzzer 2. Great Guac/awesome guac 3. Refreshingly good selection of beers for that friday…/thursday/wednesday/ tuesday/monday! 4. Choice of medium or large burritos 5 The cholula sauce makes the thing SIZZLLEEE 6 Im now fairly bored of reading the ridiculously harsh ratings from the CALI branch who say is medicore at best. Ive eaten at all the cited places in Cali and Work with many who also have, and the vast majority think Tortilla has it all. Im also happy that they wont be returning! Less people in the queue. Once you eat there more than 5x, you work out the perfect combo for you anyway. Especially if youre not used to Mex food, it can be hit and miss if you accidentally go for the really hot chilles to accompany the burrito. This is my recommended combo Medium«Buzzer»(burrito) with with Tomato rice, Black beans, Pork, Medium Salsa, Guac, Sour Cream, Cheese and LASHINGS of CHOLULA sauce. Never failed to totally dominate my taste buds, and sitting upstairs, outside, or taking it to that little church yard off lower thames street, or in the office where you get«What on earth is that! Looks amazing buddy, where is that place» Dont you know? Buritto land — Leadenhall Market — Make sure to get a few loyatly cards Enjo

After living in the US for a while, I had to come back to work in the UK for a for a few months. I found the thing I missed the most about being back was the excellent array of Mexican food the Americans had gotten me addicted to. My first option was obviously Chipotle, and this would have worked fine for me, however as it is situated on the opposite side of London to where I live and work it’s not really convenient. This led me to seek out the closest alternative, somewhere more accessible, when I don’t feel like fighting my way to the other side of town in the rush hour crush. After asking around a bit my friend told me about Tortilla, located in Leadenhall Market, about a ten minute walk away from my office. Obviously I was apprehensive; almost all Mexican food I’ve eaten in England has been disgusting, badly executed tex-mex dishes, so i was keen to avoid something like this. Thankfully, Tortilla is the exact opposite. Almost as soon as I walked in there I could tell I was going to get a great burrito. The smell was amazing and the line was long even at 3:00pm when the lunch time surge was over. As I got in line I quickly glanced at their drinks menu and I couldn’t believe my eyes; not only did they have the usual beers(corona/sol) they stocked my favourite beer from the US, Anchor Steam! Then as I read on they had all kinds of excellent beer from the states, blue moon, sam adams and loads more. The best part about this though was when I got to the counter they told me all beers are two for one during weekdays between 3−7pm! Also if you’re not a beer drinker they have margaritas which I’ve been told are very alcoholic and cheap. When I got to the front of the line where I was faced with delicious looking meat and two different kinds of rice. I went for steak and it was really tasty, worth paying an extra 50p for. Since then I’ve tried all of the meats and they are equally as good. Their hot and medium salsas are good quality, as is their guacamole. If you don’t like burritos or find them too heavy they offer smaller tacos, burrito bowls(the filling without the tortilla) and fajitas. There is a really great selection of products to chose from, and as well as the food/drink they also sell a variety of hot sauces! Finally, the service, this can be a little slow sometimes and the level of English spoken by the staff could be better, which gets a little tricky if you need to ask questions. Overall it’s good though and everyone is really friendly, especially the manager who goes out of his way to make sure my order is correct every time. Tortilla is definitely on a par with Chipotle for burritos in London and is most certainly is the best place I’ve eaten Mexican food in the city for a very long time.
