Trafalgar Square Post Office

Better foreign exchange rate than any of the other places (not including the black market).

Now this is a Post Office! Open and well designed, plenty of counters and self-​service kiosks and quite possibly the best way of queuing. Grab a ticket according to the service type you’re looking for and wait for the number to be called. The multiple screens show your place in the queue and you can just relax and wait. And what’s better about this system is the dedicated counters will prioritise people waiting for their services but will deal with normal customers as well.
I went for a Driving License Renewal and they’ve got a new machine that takes your photo and links it to the post office service. The guy was helpful and efficient although I must say, his estimate on when I’d get the license back was a bit off, he said roughly 3 weeks and I got it in 3 days! Don’t think I’m going to mark the post office down for that one though!
So in summary, great services, clean, open and well stocked.

Quite possibly this is one of the best ever Post Office branches I’ve ever encountered — if only they were ALL like this!
Until a few months ago I’d never gone into this branch, I’d only ever usually used their cash machines outside (and to get cash out, unlike a certain ex-​boyband member who used it to relieve himself after a night out on the lash!)
Anyway, wow I couldn’t believe what I’d been missing — what a place! When I entered I thought I’d come into the wrong store as there’s an actual system AND one. That. Works. You what? Yep. They use a ticket system like you might if you’re in a supermarket and want something from the deli. Crazy you say? Nope, pure genius I’m telling ya.
I waited a mere few minutes before being served in a friendly and courteous way — you know the manner from back in the day that we are not accustomed to these days? :-s I also enquired about a rarer currency for an upcoming trip and got a quote and fair enough the guy did attempt a bit of a hard sell but didn’t push it when I said I was getting quotes at other places too.
This branch is very tourist and Londoner friendly, which is helpful given it’s central location (a stone’s throw from Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross station).
And oh yeah, if this hasn’t convinced you — they also have sofas! ;-)

Amazingly easy to mail an international package. Walk in, grab shipping materials, and head over to the automated kiosks. Two minutes later and you’re out.

The future of Post Office stores, I reckon.
When I walked in here on Saturday, I thought I had walked into the wrong store. There are sofas in here!
You get a ticket like at the deli counter at a supermarket. There’s no need to queue and you hang around until your number is called. There are self weighing machines to avoid having to use counter service.
I was after some Royal Wedding presentation packs and I was served quickly, courteously and efficiently.
I think the Post Office has made a big effort to improve the customer’s experience at this branch and the hard work has paid off.

There always seems to be a long queue at this post office, though at least they have a lot of staff. If you’re going to come, I recommend taking a number and, depending on how many people are in front of you, going to run a few errands and then coming back. My average wait time is about 20 – 30 minutes.

There is no sign of Postman Pat in here and I also have never spotted Jess. I take it that as they are the celebs of the postie world they are a little too important to be popping in on this one, although it would be nice if they did. And if they did pop in I bet you might actually see one of the chappies behind the thick glass smile. I think I saw one smile last time I was in, but he was old and he could have been picking something out his dentures. You think watching all the pissed off people waiting in the 60 person long queue would make them smirk but no — not even a snigger!
They tick all the boxes as far as post offices go, sells stamps, changes money, sells stamps, does recorded deliveries, sells stamps and I think they have a few envelopes for sale too.
