Tricker’s Shoe Shops

Tricker's is absolutely my most favourite shoe shop in London. Over the years I have purchased more than five pairs (country shoes and country boots). In fact, I have made it a rule to pay a visit whenever I am in London. The quality of the shoes is superb, staff are knowledgable and helpful. (I always have a good chat with Eamon.) When I turn into Jermyn Street and see the sign over the entrance, my heartbeat quickens in anticipation. I started with a pair of signal red brogues, followed by green, plum and purple ones. Now I own a pair of red Stow boots and navy Chelsea boots. The boots were a bit hard to break in, but no shoes I have ever bought compare with a pair of Tricker's. Mind you, being handmade they do not come cheap, but you can always shop for a pair during their sales periods.

Three years ago I was on a search for a new pair of shoes. I came across Tricker’s on Jermyn St. by chance and saw the perfect chunky brogues in the window so immediately went in.
The Tricker’s shop on Jermyn St. is quite small with original wooden fittings that probably date from Victorian times. The knowledgeable salesman was helpful in advising the correct size which fit perfectly. (I have wide feet so sometimes hard to find a good fit). The sales assistant told me that the design of this brogue hasn’t changed in over a 100 years and they can rebuild the shoe mutliple times when the soles wear out.
The shoes I purchased can be worn for business and also when not at work and still look good.
They are the most expensive shoes I have bought but at the same time the best shoe purchase I ever made. Completely comfortable, robust and I can tell they will always look good even as they age.
Tricker’s is a family run business that is 180 years old with craftsmen made shoes that are made in England (wow, something that is NOT made in China). High quality super durable leather and hand stiched soles. You can see and feel the difference. For me it’s a perfect combination of tradition and timeless style, not fashion.
I was so pleased with my purchase, I went back a few months later and bought a second pair in the sale in a different colour.
Three years later the shoes are still as good as ever (soles might need refurbishing soon but that’s testament to the miles they have put in).

In the past, I have bought three pairs of shoes from Tricker’s and they were one of the best shoes I’ve ever worn, after Edward Greene. Apparently, the retail prices at Tricker’s are not bad. Rest assured, Tricker’s are much better than Church’s Shoes.

I had Tricker’s shoes for years, and I am very happy with them. The quality of the leather is very good, and I am also very happy with the workmanship. The Jermyn Street store from which I purchased most of my Tricker’s shoes looks like a small family-​run shop in the olden days, but sometimes, customer service could be improved. Tricker’s has a nice choice of different styles, and they also offer shoes made on different lasts and with different widths so that people like me with narrow feet will also find a shoe that not only fits but is also comfortable.
I especially wear my Tricker’s shoes with chinos or jeans since they are not only sturdy and robust, but many of their shoes also look the part. If you are looking for an elegant pair of dress shoes to be combined with a well-​tailored or light-​weight suit, other shops like Crockett & Jones, John Lobb or Edward Green (all of them also on Jermyn Street) may have better shoes for you. For all other purposes, I can only recommend Tricker’s.
