I guess I should have read the other reviews more carefully. I don’t know if the drinks are any good or if the music is — I didn’t stay long enough to find out, but their bouncer is extremely rude and nasty; I’m not coming back to find out anything else. Being a rather petite girl, it is quite unpleasant to be shouted at by a dude three times your size when you’re super-polite and a potential client. Avoid if you like other people to be polite to you. I came here on a Tuesday for the live music, around 9pm. I was told by the person at the door that the entry’s 5 pounds. Fine, I paid and came in. After speaking to people for a few minutes, I realized the music wouldn’t start till 10.30pm. I couldn’t stay that late, so I headed back to the door — and asked very politely whether I could have the money back since I’m not staying for the event and was there for the whole time of 5 minutes or less. The girl gave me the money, but then the bouncer started telling her off, that she shouldn’t reimburse me, that I didn’t want to pay in the first place(All I had asked him was whether one had to pay every night, whether they have other music or open mic — it’s my first time, how am I supposed to know this in advance??). I left the 5 pounds to them, since I didn’t think it was worth making a scene. I will be writing to them though because they should fire the guy.

Went on Tuesday for Jam session. Great music. A little crowded which is credit to the quality of music, suggest getting there at 9 if you want a seat. Food was quite good too.

Wonderful place ! We wondered in here earlier then the normal crowd and the staff were so lovely they kept the kitchen open for us and made us some AMAZING jerk fish, chicken and goat curry! Some of the best caribbean food I’ve ever had! Which wasn’t a surprised since we met the chef and she was legit! The bar tender was super friendly and made some great drinks! We stayed hung around for the musical night! Each night there is something one, the night we are in it was a reggae open mic night! IT was amazing! We were there for 5 hours! Got there at 7pm and Left at 12am! The music was still going but we had to go to a work meeting in the morning! HA

I must say I am not a big Jazz fan, but I came here with few friends for a drink on Friday after dinner and the atmosphere was nice. You pay a cover of £4 to get in, there is a really nice live music and it was not crowded, we got a table very easily and the music was not loud so we could chat. Drinks are not expensive and I also found my favourite amaretto di Saronno and was really happy about it. good spot for a chilled drink

I stumbled apon this place because I saw ‘organic’, and then all of a sudden a door to downstairs bar opened and we were invited to come listen to the live jazz being played. It was moody, romantic, and they served organic wine. bonus! What a nice treat to find this place.

Occasional live music(which can be good) and a *total* mixed bag when it comes to the crowd(everything from jaded Hoxtonites, to grumpy old men, to foreigners, who you *know* just randomly stumbled into this place — and you kinda wonder just why it is they stayed…). The best is really when they have a live gig — since it perks up the atmosphere. Otherwise, you’re stuck with a bizarre sampling of tasteless tunes from a variety of decades… and the occasional drunken songbird who wants take advantage of the empty stage with an impromptu karaōke performance of them… But as Fred said, what’s nice about Troy is that it’s *reliable.* When you can’t be bothered with some of the obnoxious club queues… and all you really want is a basic drink in a rather average, not-too-crowded bar — *this* is your Hoxton venue.

Tap your feet to the beat and return to your musical roots! I came to Troy bar with a few friends one night and was blown away by the live entertainment. Every day of the week, there’s a different genre of music including reggae, swing and jazz. This venue is intimate as it is centered around one main room where the stage is. The bartenders are chatty and the crowd is low-key. Great place for an evening of relaxation and conversation!
