Turnkey

A massive shop, with a good selection of gear, but quite pushy salesmen. I bought a significant quantity of expensive musical gear here several years ago, and it’s served me very nicely. However, since then the internet shopping revolution has really taken off and these days I would be able to get a better deal — back then I had to find all quotes by phone. Anyway, it’s a plush and interesting shop, and the quantity of high quality gear is more than I have ever seen in any other music shop, but then it is Soho — the music shop capital of the UK.

On 2 occasions I’ve gone to buy from Turnkey, and every time the price has been too good to be true, they never have it in stock! The service is pretty poor, its always so busy, and they tend to prioritise who they think is important and technical knowledge isn’t all of their teams strong point. So needless to say I’ve never bought from here again

Turn key is a must for all you DJ enthusiasts, whether you’re a novice or expert you should find what ever it is your looking for. In my case I was after a cheap decent set of decks, they would be my first so I was not too keen to spend too much. Thankfully Turnkey had what I was looking for, for a little less then 300 pound I managed to get a mixer, decks and headphones .
The staff are friendly enough and always happy to help with any questions, but be prepared to wait as the store can gat a little busy at certain times of the day.
Turnkey has plenty of DJ equipment on site, but you can also order it in.

I’ve been coming here for 20 years (when back then it was Soho Soundhouse, located in Soho Square) for anything to do with electronic music production. They’re always very competitive on pricing and are often sole UK importers for a number of brands. I won’t list what they stock — check the website. Its one of those places where they have really do have everything — cabling, stands, cases & all ! You even can pick up an entire custom PC/​Mac music system including all the hardware & software.
Most of the sound modules & keyboards are available on demo for you to fiddle with — so its a great place to come to test out equipment. I personally don’t use the guitar side of the business (actualy the original Turnkey business), but I believe this is good.
Only drawback is the place is busy & you can never get anyone to help you. I often know what I want, so am just there to complete a transaction, but if you’re looking for advice its a frustrating place to visit. They’ve never had enough staff. I advise you go at non-​peak times if you can.
