Uncommon Touch

I was searching all over for a spring loaded curtain rod to hang this crazy doorway curtain I found in Japan. After some dead end wild goose chases that Google Maps led me on I eventually stumbled upon the Uncommon Touch. When I walked in it was dead silent. Poles and rolls of fabric leaning against the walls and stacked high on the floor. It’s definitely a tight squeeze making your way through this tiny shop. Even after the door chime went off I still didn’t hear anyone in back. I said «Hello», loudly and looking around the shop I was half expecting some freak of nature to come popping out. Eventually I heard some rustling in the back and was greeted by a schoolmarmish looking older woman who looked very surprised either by my appearance or thought I was lost.
As I was explaining what I needed I started realizing she was mouthing my own words, silently though, but it was very distracting. I would change the speed but her lips kept flapping in sequence with mine. I couldn’t tell if I was speaking or she was after a while. The fact that her teeth looked like wood chips added to the mystique. After I explained what I wanted she went in the back and retrieved exactly what I was looking for. We continued for a bit of chat and I noticed she had stopped mouthing my words. I guess initially she was doing it as a way to remember what I wanted so she wouldn’t forget when she went in the storeroom. Anyway she was a kind lady and I’d definitely go back if I needed any curtain stuff. One last thing, F#ck Google Maps.
