Victoria Line

The Victoria line is a deep-​level London Underground route running from the south (Zone 2) to the north-​east (Zone 3) of London. It is coloured light blue on the Tube map. Unlike most other lines on the Underground, it runs entirely below ground.
Constructed in the 1960s, it was the first entirely new tube line in London for fifty years, and was designed to relieve congestion on other lines, in particular the Piccadilly line and the West End branch of the Northern line. The line has always been operated using automatic train operation, but all trains carry drivers.
The Victoria line is used by 200 million passengers each year, making it the sixth most heavily used line on the network in absolute figures, but in terms of the average number of journeys per mile it is by far the most intensively used line.
My local station is on this line

This line is great and super convenient. The trains were very clean and the people were quiet and doing a lot of reading. I’d like to stay near this line again in the future. The transfer points to other main lines are super easy.

This particular line has been used when on a visit in London in January 2014. I found it clean, reliable and well maintained. Stops are very convenient for changes and it hits the sweet spots in the city.
If you need to take a line, take the Vic.

Excellent transportation!!! Loved the proximity of the Victoria line to many main attractions including the theater district. Not scary either. Just a great ride!

Probably the best tube line in London.
Of course the above opinion largely depends on whether it goes anywhere you need/​want to go. It’s the fastest line, both in terms of the speed at which the trains travel (now even faster with the introduction of new trains) and the way the line crosses London. It’s very well connected, serving three major mainline railway stations as well as some of London’s most popular areas, plus it connects to most other major lines and services.
The new trains are also brilliant, more spacious and flexible making peak periods more bearable. They are also more frequent, giving the line increased capacity.
The only reason I’ve not given it 5 stars is because most of the stations are still not accessible to those with mobility problems.

Love, love, love the Victoria Line… when it’s working! It’s my quickest and easiest link from my current home in north London to my old home, friends and family in south London, changing at Finsbury Park.
When it’s working it runs straight on down to Brixton from Finsbury Park (where I change from the Piccadilly Line) in brilliant time, taking in some key stops including Euston, King’s Cross, Oxford Circus, Victoria (obviously!), Vauxhall and Stockwell, which all serve as handy connections to other underground lines and overground services.
I’m docking a star because at least 8 times out of 10 the Vicky Line is down at weekends. Yes, yes, everyone says it’s the Olympics but it’ll get an extra star when it’s up and running properly. It’s also a bloody hot journey (I’m guessing it may be deeper underground than some other lines), so can be a bit of a sticky one for commuting.
Other than that, Vicky’s a darling!

The new trains are super fast, clean and modern and I can be in Oxford Cirus in around 10 minutes from my station.
The frequency is great. At busy times the trains run at 1 minute intervals. One train will be leaving the station, you can sometimes see the next one approaching.
I try to connect to the Victoria line whenever possible since it’s usually the faster route.
It’s popular and crowded, especially at peak times and can occassionally suffer a snarl up or traffic jam but it works hard and does a great job overall. An example of the Underground at it’s best.

Delayed. Correction. Delayed. Cancelled. Hammersmith & City, Northern, Metropolitan, Central… The entire underground network is falling apart but wait, there is but one line to which theses words do not apply.
Yes, you’ve guessed it, it’s our faithful Vicky blue! Here she comes, thundering alone. Never fear Viks is here! And if you miss the first train, don’t worry, there’s another just one minute behind.
She just never stops giving.

I was amazed how easy it was to move about London using the Underground. We were staying with my brother-​in-​law who lives in Walthamstow and we went all over London. We were able to use the map that was provided when we bought our Oyster Pass to navigate and we also used the buses.

For a south Londoner like me, the Victoria line conveniently connects some important stations — Stockwell interchange with the Northern line, Victoria, Euston and Kings Cross train stations and Green Park and Oxford Circus for shopping.
When it runs, it seems to be a fast line. However, at the moment, the Victoria line seems practically Victorian with its closure virtually every weekend. Unspecified engineering works are cited as the reason
I await to see if a phoenix will rise from the ashes of my disrupted weekend travel and I will post an update when this happens

This is by far and way the best tube line in London. You can reach Oxford Circus in no time from North or South London, it takes all of 20 minutes to get from Highbury and Islington to central London and if you can take it as part of a further journey, it’s worth getting it for as long as possible as it’s so quick. It’s also a very pretty light blue colour. Plus the evening renovations are complete now so you can get it after 10 at night again. Woohoo.

I give this line a 4 star — as I never experienced any difficulty and even at peak hours managed to get a seat.
The main purpose of the line was to relieve congestion in the central area.
I often wonder how tourists get clarification which direction the lines are running. There is a simple rule in London to be known: London is divided in North/​East/​South and West and every line orientates itself on this given rule. For instance if you want to get from Euston to Victoria have a look at the tube map and you will find out that you have to follow the Southbound Victoria line signs as you travel South.
Oh and do not forget — MIND THE GAP — they happen to be quite wide with the Victoria Line — this is no myths, but there happen lots of injuries!

The Victoria Line services some great stations. To name a few, you have Victoria, Kings Cross, Oxford Circus and Green Park. It is quick and frequent and should be one of the top underground lines. But unfortunately it is not.
There seems to be constant maintenance work on the Victoria line meaning it closes at 22:30pm most nights. For a city that never sleeps this is far too early. The early closure means getting to the likes of Walthamstow can be a problem late on.
