I absolutely adore people with get up and go. By that I mean having the balls to go after what they are passionate about. There’s no greater affirmation of that type of drive and spirit, then taking that giant leap from working for someone, to flying solo.
It takes a special kind of individual to open up a new business in the eye of an increasingly likely double dip recession. Gerard McGuickin of Walnut Grey Design has done just that.
McGuickin, an interior designer and interior stylist decided to follow his long held interior design dreams and go it alone in July of this year. What makes him a stand out in the overcrowded world of interior design, is his individual perspective.
On his website he writes «I believe we are entwined with the spaces in which we live, work and play. To all intents and purposes, our space is an extension of us and what we represent; it’s a manifestation of who we are».
With a design ethos which is bold, chic and unique to the client, he is working with, he has clearly recognised and mastered the art of working in collaboration with his clients, a skill sorely lacking from some other interior designers.
«My natural tendency is to listen, to coach and to help people realise the potential that their space can offer. I care greatly, not just about the interior design itself, but about how that design impacts my clients both emotionally and physically».
