Wasabi

First off a warning — boy does this place get busy at lunch. Like the queue snakes around the inside of the store busy. If you can not go at peak lunch times, it’ll be great. Because then I’ll get through the queue quicker if I’m there!
This is pretty much the same as all Wasabi’s — for those that don’t know, the store does a range of Japanese hot food as well as a range of sushi (including veggie). There are several plus points to this individual store; the hot food is pre-​packaged already in pots (although the container for the katsu chicken curry is a bit odd), so you just grab that and take it up to the counter.
The sushi range is fairly extensive for this sort of place, although obviously not as much as a specific sushi place. Wasabi does have both «sets» of sushi as well as the ability to buy single rolls (or two packs of the smaller rolls). I’m rather fond of the veggie sushi, and the tofu is pretty good.

There are better places than this one and the rice is not basmati too I don’t really reccomend this place

The place is small and they don’t have open buffet service like other branches. It’s so busy area and there is always a long line. They some place inside so you can sit-​in and have your food.

The Wasabi by my office isn’t like this — big, spacious… well the one near me doesn’t even have seats. The set up was a little different ‘cuz the hot food was already packed with the rice and sitting in heated shelves. At first I thought. Do they not have hot food? The food probably comes from the same central prep area but for some reason… the spicy chicken was unusually better than other branches for some reason.
The place is pretty hectic around lunch so becareful as it feels like you might get run over by hungry lunchers.

Wasabi isn’t bad, but it’s not all that spectacular either. It’s like, ah, I’m eating sushi. Although I did like that you could pick and choose individual rolls.
The hot dishes were also a bit of a disappointment. Major points docked for the chicken yakisoba being dry enough to parch an ocean.
In the end I’d rather eat at Pret than return here.

Pret or Eat? Hard to decide today, so I thought I’d go for something slightly different in Wasabi. While it’s not the best or the freshest or even the most creative sushi in the world, it is inexpensive and what they have is good. I like the mixed «Hana» box with six or so different nigiris and a couple of nice bits of sashimi. Surprisingly filling and all «brain food» that isn’t a carb-​heavy sandwich that just has me dozing off by 2:30.
The also have a good selection of goop-​covered chicken and tofu in noodles or rice. I’ve never had that — I’d be asleep after the second bite!
Very crowded at lunch time and the queue can be a little on the slow side. Mostly my fault as when I eat here, it’s on expenses and I have to use my card. Sorry about that!

Terrific miso soup at only £1 a cup and the staff are very friendly.

Your typical Wasabi, but this one comes extra special with poor service, long wait times at lunch and cash registers that seem to fail when people use cards.
Yet, there’s always a line out the door. I guess it seems to bungle the theory that bad places have no customers. But wait, I still go back myself, so I guess I’m one of those suckers.
Be forewarned, make sure you either come with cash or a long time for lunch. Otherwise, choose the itsu closer to Victoria Station.

We were in London in past winter visiting family and not to my knowledge my fiancé had devised a plan to fit all of shopping plans in the one open day when we were not busy with family.
That snow covered cold morning her devious plan went into action and she lured me into taking her shopping in every high street with a TOP SHOP sign … several hours later — with my wallet and stomach empty — he shopping came to a conclusion and she finally decided to let me refuel.
Hungry we stumbled into this place which seemed to be full of 20 somethings munching on PHO!
As an avid lover of PHO in the states — i was not expecting to see it here in front of me in London providing me nourishment just when i needed it!
The place was rocking — with unedited lyrics of Jayz and 50 cent blasting on the speakers and hot PHO and spicy chicken in a box in front of me i felt like i was in the states — something was still missing … SIRACHA! which the kind gentleman behind the counter decided to bring over to me — i guess cause im Indian and we like spicy? haha
But all and all — i know this is a fast food joint in London and ppl might be jaded — but as someone for who this marriage of a sexy atmosphere + PHO\quick delicious sushi is not available in the states — I give it 4 stars!

Let’s give that a 3.5… neighboring 4. Okay fine maybe 3.8.
So I usually would never be caught dead at a place like this — a chain, fast-​food, take-​away sushi place. My friend’s a sushi chef, I am picky about the quality of fish, and I’m from the west coast where I typically eat sushi at least once or twice a week.
BUT. I will root for Wasabi. And here’s why.
1) Their stuff is fresh and tastes quality. Fish, rice, noodles, whatever. What they lack in authenticity, they at least make up for it in decent quality and tastiness.
2) They have a fair selection. Mix/​match your own rolls, hand rolls, nigiri, bento boxes, soba, rice balls, katsu don’s… they also have big containers where you can scoop your curry or teriyaki chicken with rice. But I’d generally avoid that type of takeaway. The cold stuff tastes much better.
3) It’s fairly priced. You could get a mixed sushi box from £3.50 onwards.
I’d rather go here than sit at a Chinese-​owned sushi place with overpriced and mediocre sushi. Woop!

Oh no, I find myself at odds with one of my favorite reviewers Lina G! Here’s my Wasabi story:
Sushi urge running for a train. Convenient food cart offering fast sushi hit. Irresistible. Just knew it was too good to be true. And it was. Tiny pieces, claggy tasteless rice, fish not super-​fresh tasting, other fillings dried out and tasteless. Promptly binned it. Bought high cholesterol burger. Waistline increased despite good fast food intentions. Damn you Wasabi!
If I were you I’d listen to Lina not me, I’m just a grumpy old man :-)

I love this place and I can never stay away when I see it.
While most sushi takeaways ive been to usually cost a LOT, this one is dirt cheap…4 rolls for £1! there are many different varieties of sushi, including boxes with mixed sushi if you’re too lazy to pick out your own. As well as that there’s also a LOT of chicken– katsus, skewers, curries… amazing place.

Wasabi is one of my secret pleasures/​shame. It’s particularly difficult for me to avoid this branch, as it’s located smack in the middle of Victoria Station. It’s tiny and takeaway-​only, but still has a pretty good selection of sushi and hot food. The prices are pretty reasonable and the onigiri (triangular rice ball wrapped in seaweed with a salmon, tuna/​mustard or seaweed filling) is a steal at £1.
The sushi isn’t bad either – it’s a lot better than some of the stuff you’d get at the Tesco, etc. Of course it’s also a lot worse than what you’d get at a good sushi restaurant, but chances are you aren’t considering between the two. This is fast food and is better than what you’d get at of a lot of other fast food joints, but probably not the place to consider if you have actual human companionship or like to sit down when you eat. If you need a snack for the long ride home, though, this is the place.

Not bad sushi, love the wasabi beans. Last time I was there I had the Salmon Teriyaki and a couple of sushi things, was good but kind of like the Japanese Canteen in Holborn for the freshness; but good place and very large selection.
Let’s face it you know when the food is good when you see japanese people eating in the same restaurant.
