Westfield Stratford City

This mall is great in every way.
It is right next to major transit options, so easy to get to.
It has a variety of stores and restaurants, so there are many shopping and eating options.
It has very high and bright ceilings, so even though many people are around, it makes it feel a little less cramped.
It also has a few additional niceties, like charging lockers for your phone, a Vue movie theatre, casino, and outdoor market/​shopping area.
An enjoyable place to wander or do serious shopping.

Nobody likes being at the mall but as malls go, this one’s not so bad. Great presence of all major high street brands, even a Mulberry and White Company out on ‘The Street’. Good selection of food and a great cinema. Choice of John Lewis/​Waitrose or M&S, ostensibly on complete opposite sides of the mall.
Parking expensive and a total nightmare during Christmas or weekends but well served by the Central line.

Massive shopping mall!!! It’s the biggest shopping center in London and it’s amazing and I see why! You have every store you can think of and more! There’s also many restaurants, a casino, bowling and more! Reminded me of the palisades center in my hometown but much more fancier! I got so many things to bring home to the US and this is Where my love for gourmet burger kitchen was founded. They even have a
Huge M&S inside!

Then this place is for you. Humongous shopping mall with looooooots of people and stores that are open until 10pm everyday and on sunday

Westfield Stratford city is shopping Mecca.
They have everything, they really do, including some really good places to eat (Jamie’s Italian especially).
It’s always pretty busy, and I’ve often waited a good ten minutes just to look at a map so either head to the info stop next to Starbucks if it’s your first time or download the app to get your way around– you WILL get lost, it IS HUGE.
My only issue with Stratford is it doesn’t feel high street, even their greggs is London-​Ified, it’s posh and more expensive almost for the sake of it.
Definitely worth a trip if you have the money to spend, but if you’re a poor student like me, cross over the huge bridge and there’s a smaller and much more affordable shopping centre!

Normally I find myself at Westfield White City, just because geographically it seems to make more sense for me. I’m not a big fan of it though — there just aren’t many shops I want to go to, and there’s not really any atmosphere.
Westfield Stratford is a different beast. Crammed full of stores, it really feels like an American mall. There’s a great variety of shops and restaurants but what really surprised me was just how heaving it was on a Thursday at 6pm — jam-​packed!
And it’s actually much easier to get to than I ever remember, with the Central line getting you back to Liverpool Street in just 3 stops. The Javelin train is a bit quicker but for the money, I can spend the few extra minutes on the Central line!
My criticisms of the mall are 1) that there aren’t a lot of places to sit by the entrance from the train station. I was meeting someone and it made it a bit hard (we did find plenty of seating later though, at the other end by the parking garage, where the whole mall was much quieter). And 2) I HATE HATE HATE the pushy salespeople selling their crap that no one wants from the ‘on mall’ shops (the kiosks and the like). Ignore them? They keep rabbiting on. Tell them no? They keep rabbiting on. Be rude? They rabbit on. Really, they shouldn’t be allowed to pester people. No one is standing outside John Lewis trying to tempt you in! (End rant!)

Massive shopping centre (biggest in Europe I think), and has a better range for me than the West Westfields — more high-​street, less high end. Plenty of places to eat and drink — if you can, get to «The Street» as it tends to be far less busy and has some great choices. Best times to visit = the last hour of the day when everyone else has gone home (7 – 8 most of the year, later over Christmas)

Westfield is a very big, cool shopping centre in Stratford, and is a great addition to Stratford, which is becoming a more cool place, and the place to be in the recent years, with the 2012 London Olympics bringing the Olympic Stadium to Stratford, and this shopping centre having hotels inside, and being minutes away from the stadium and full Olympic complex, and even Stratford station is nearby, which is on the Jubilee line of the London Underground.
Stratford is located over quite a few floors, and is the 3^rd largest shopping centre in the UK, by square meters, with only Manchester’s Trafford Centre and Newcastle’s Metro Centre beating it. However it is only the third largest shopping centre if you consider the retail space, in terms of size, it is the largest urban shopping centre in the European Union, which makes it kind of a tourist attraction !
I want to start by commenting on quite a cool feature Westfield has compared to other shopping centres, they have screens where you can get directions to a store of your choosing, and they can even text that to your phone, free of charge, to avoid having to look at the machine directions and memorizing them.
Westfield stands out to me, compared to other shopping centres as it feels much cooler, and a much nicer place, than other large shopping centres, which I feel ruins them a little bit, they is a main part inside, and even a few shops outside, with independent stores such as The Football Café having a store here, and even a small store for West Ham United fans to make reservations for their new stadium (Don’t ask me my opinion on that or this review will turn into a rather negative rant!)
Westfield seems to have many places you can think of, including a small number of banks (Barclays and Natwest), betting shops (Coral), a cinema (VUE), dvd shops (HMV), Fashion store (Armani, Hugo Boss, Adidas), to name all the shops here would probably take a while, and also not be possible with Unilocal’s 500 character limit, but one thing that is for sure, is that if you are looking for a certain shop, Westfield will most likely have it.
Some stores in Westfield, even stand out from stores in other shopping centres, such as quite a cool, modern branch of Starbucks and one of the best branches of Waitrose I have seen, with good prices, and even soy milk to go with your free loyalty card coffee, and scan as you shop machines.
Westfield might be one of my favourite shopping centres, with larger cool branches of shops, but still it does have flaws.
One big issue is the lifts, the lifts are hidden very well and hard to find, and even the maps that guide you to a store, don’t explain it to well, making directions to stores and finding lifts, hard for visitors to this mall for the first time, which does ruin the experience a little, take a look at Manchester’s Arndale or Meadowhall for example, lifts seem to be displayed very clearly, but here, they don’t seem to be. If you are looking for them, they seem to be in the slips, where they is space but is no shops and with the toilets. Even the lifts in shops, such as John Lewis are confusing, and not only do they barely work, they don’t seem to take you to other levels of the mall.
Due to Westfield’s size, it might be busy, but it still feels like a nicer shopping experience, rather than being inches away from crowds of people, hence it is a slightly nicer shopping experience, although don’t take my opinion over a regular, as I did only visit once and that was on a weekday, when shopping centre’s tend not to be as busy, as a Saturday afternoon for example.
Westfield is quite a nice shopping centre, it is modern and does posses a large amount of shops, although it does have flaws, some in the shopping centre and some in the stores, which means it isn’t perfect, in fact I’d say it really has to do quite a bit more, before it is even put into consideration of being perfect, but with some very nice branches of certain stores, and it being quite a nice place to shop in London, giving independant businesses a chance too, I do feel 4 stars is fair for this shopping centre.

WHY OH WHY DID THIS STRIKE ME AS A GOOD IDEA TO VISIT WHEN SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER?
So…there are a lot of shops. But this might be a case of quantity over quality? Just a lot of bright lights and big noise and big crowds and… I guess it gets you a lot of High Street shops all in one place?
Yep. I made a very hasty exit after checking out the food court (which was my favourite part: Indian Street food! Burritos! A mini Franco Manca’s!).

Very crowded. Dull shops with tacky merchandise. When this Westfield opened we were promised luxury. I think Prada lasted a year and escaped after contract was up. No more luxury.
Constant queues, whining, screaming kids (don’t blame them– I felt like yelling myself) lots of gorging hordes acting as though they haven’t seen food for a week. Only cakes available are cup cakes by the dozen.
Sickly sweet aroma fills the air giving unwanted sugar rush. Parking facilities are plentiful. John Lewis is there but this is not exactly an endangered species. They can be found in most areas.
All in all dull way to spend time and money and a huge dreary Primark.

Facile d’accès (à condition que vous attrapiez le bon train, cette ligne se divisant en plusieurs terminus), le centre commercial se situe juste à côté de la station Stratford.
Le centre est grand, beau et surtout il y a peu de monde (nous y sommes allé en semaine), c’est même assez calme.
Ce centre commercial est le plus grand d’Europe, cela vous laisse donc une idée de l’étendu des magasins que vous trouverez là-​bas. Il y a pour tous les goûts, et tous les prix.
Les boutiques sont toutes très jolies et bien décorées dans l’ensemble.
Vous trouverez aussi facilement de quoi manger, que ça soit un vrai repas ou une pause café.
Les services mis à disposition dans le centre sont bien pensés (distributeur sans frais de comm, toilettes propres et gratuits, espace détente).
Nous avons particulièrement apprécié ce moment shopping en amoureux et si vous aimez faire les magasins ou tout simplement que vous souhaitez découvrir des enseignes qui né se trouvent pas ou peu en France, alors foncez!

Lovely shopping centre with a good selection of shops. We visited on a Sunday, I suspect weekends are normally busy.
There is also a good selection of restaurants that would suit all budgets and tastes. As the centre is located next to the Olympic park transport links are plentiful.
If you are in the mood for shopping this is a good option, especially if the weather is not good!

Mid-​end mall with the usual High Street stores, a cinema and a selection of chain restaurants.
A much more enjoyable experience in the morning when the locals are still not stirring and the mall is quiet. Late afternoon, evenings and weekends are a mess. Overcrowded with both shoppers and some people who may be shopping but are not likely paying…
Fantastic public transportation and parking available.

I have to admit that living in the area this place has grown on me… I LOVED it during the Olympics, but if that’s your thing who wouldn’t? Following 2012 I still found myself at this mall, but if time afforded I much preferred the Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush… and truth be told, still do by a long shot.
Above said, despite the madness that this mall can be it basically has everything you could need and then some so, as a mall, it easily succeeds and had I not been exposed to the Shepherd’s Bush location would easily claim this as my favourite mall this side of the pond.
Now that I’m in walking distance though it’s very hard to justify heading off to the other location, so I find myself here a few times a week at least… whether it’s to grab a pint at Tap East, peruse the Apple Store, pick-​up some fresh bread at Karaway, or simply grab some groceries at Waitrose… if you need it, it’s here. Cinema, Bowling, Fast Food, 24 hour Casino, a few decent restaurants, etc., they literally have it all. The thing I find, however, is that most of what they have is done better elsewhere… not that any of the shops here are bad, but each one usually reminds me of X incarnation on Y street if you know what I mean.
And if you just so happen to be an Olympic fan, heading out here is a no brainer as you can wander around the still glorious Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park quite easily prior to or post shopping… it’s all right there.
Extra kudos to being so easy to get to from King’s Cross… it may cost £6.00, but if you just so happen to be going from one to the other then the high speed train from Stratford International is definitely the way to do it despite the cost.
So, all in all, I’ve warmed back up to the place and as much as I don’t LOVE it, there’s little that keeps it from being justified as a good mall… a solid 3.5, rounded to a 4 in the end.
The one piece of advice that I would give is that it’s best to avoid at peak times, i.e. weekends and bank holidays… it can get straight out mad at those times which makes a visit a bit more frustrating than it should be.

This has been my main place to shop when I lived in London. The location is just besides the Olympic park (big waste of money).
I prefer this location as the traffic is never crazy driving there and from where I stay the DLR goes straight there for those days when I leave the car at home.
Has just about everything I need when shopping, NEXT, River Island and Zara and plenty of food courts to eat.

Ok, I have this love-​hate relationship with Westfield and most malls around the world. They’re quite impersonal if you ask me. Lots of people hanging around like zombies without seeing the real thing.
If you want to go shopping for a day, or try a nice play to eat, Westfield is your perfect. I like it. They have everything you can look for. Plenty of shops, delis, restaurants and even a cinema with lots of options regarding movies. As I said, not being a fan of big malls myself, I can assure this one has everything you need, with a little bit of the East vibe (quite different from the one on Shepherd Bush).
Yeah. Go shopping there but don’t forget your local shops!

Love it or hate it sometimes we all have to go shopping and if like me the idea of walking down the rather tired looking Oxford Street fills you with dread then Westfield Stratford is probably your best option. On a plus side as other Unilocalers say it’s easy to get to and there is plenty of parking if that is what you’re looking for and of course there are loads and loads of shops some seen in most high streets around the country and some which are only available here.
As others have said and I cannot recommend this enough arrive as early as possible as this place just gets busier and busier as the day progresses. If you are visiting with friends my top tip would be to meet over a coffee though not at the Starbucks because the service isn’t great, then do your shopping and afterwards head for Tap East for a pizza and a pint.

Westfield Stratford City really has me torn. On one hand it’s London’s biggest, brightest, shiniest new shopping mall. On the other hand it’s a complete nightmare to visit, particularly on the weekends.
This place is pretty easy to get to, which is a plus. The DLR, Jubilee line, Central line, and Overground all stop at Stratford Station, which is right next door. The facilities at the shopping centre are top notch. Americans and Australians will be familiar with Westfield and will probably be pleasantly surprised that something so modern is available in London.
There are several major anchor stores here, include John Lewis, Waitrose, and Marks & Spencer. There’s also a sizeable Primark, Currys, and all the typical stores you’d normally find in a shopping centre. As far as eating is concerned, the ground floor has lots of fast food, whilst the upper floors have a wider variety of restaurants. Even more restaurants are located outside, and there’s also a movie theatre here, not to mention a full blown casino (weird), and a big fat parking garage.
On paper Westfield Stratford City is fantastic. It’s everything — shopping, dining, movies, gambling (again, weird!) — all in one place. This, however, might also be its downfall. It is so unbelievably busy here, to the point where it will drive you insane. Around lunchtime the ground floor food court more closely resembles a shark feeding frenzy than actual people sitting down to eat food.
The crowds only seem to be getting worse and worse. Don’t even think about visiting on a bank holiday weekend. If you must visit, try early on a weekday. If you must visit on a weekend, get up early and show up at 9am on Saturday. If you can get your shopping done by 11am you’ll escape the major hoards of people.

I stayed in Holland Park literally down the street from this Waitrose. I have no idea what possessed us, but we volunteered to make rice crispie treats for my nephews pre-​school class’ Valentine’s day celebration. If we were in the states, this would not have been a difficult task, BUT in London, not so easy. Marshmallows are EXPENSIVE here, and different. Us silly Americans.
We also decided to cook a real Vietnamese meal for my cousin. Will the Londoners reading my review, please stop laughing. Funny thing… the Waiterose at this mall provided us with better ingredients than the markets in Chinatown.
And for all those that still remember Esprit… there’s one here. Also an ok Mexican restaurant, which my nephew loves. A little bit of something for everyone.

Not to be confused with Westfield London in White City/Shepherd’s Bush in West London. And most people feel it should be called Eastfield being in East London, to differentiate them, but as Westfield is part of the Westfield chain of the Australian shopping centre group, then it will continue to cause confusion! And to cause even more confusion, it is in London and not in Stratford upon Avon, a city in Warwickshire in the centre of England, even though it is called Westfield Stratford City!
It is based right next to the London Olympic Park, East Village, Stratford regional and international stations, and has opened the area of East London, and it overshadows the more low key Stratford Shopping Centre with it’s traditional East London market in its mall.
It runs events all year round, making it a day out, not just for shopping. Outside in The Street, there is the huge canopy where you can sit back and relax, depending on what is on offer, it can be a jazz night in the summer, or during sporting events, like Wimbledon, you can watch it live.

Great modern new clean mall… All the usual stores as you would expect. Get off at the Stratford tube station and shop away. Also combine it ti a trip around the Olympic Park. All within easy walking distance.

A very beautiful shopping center. I was already a few times on business in London. Regularly, if I had the time, I took a trip with my girlfriend there. We like it very much. Especially for tourists it’s a fine address.
