Wicked

My first visit to London had to include a show in West End! I’ve seen Wicked four times stateside but it’s been awhile, so I didn’t bat an eye when my fiancé suggested this be the show we saw. I’m so happy he did.
Compared to Broadway prices these days, the West End is significantly more affordable. We were planning on buying discounted tickets from the local TKTS booth, but ended up ordering them online since the price was basically the same. I was a little confused by the seating system, but we chose the third cheapest option and ended up with good seats in the circle, which is the American equivalent of second tier. The «stalls» is like our orchestra.
The Apollo Victoria Theatre is beautiful! It’s not overwhelming in size so even the highest seats should provide a decent view. Wicked is also such a big show, you’ll still get a great experience from high up. It’s not near all the other theaters in Leicester Square, but has a tube stop super close.
They have snacks, drinks, traditional ice cream at intermission, and gifts. I saw a brochure touting how you can even get drinks delivered to your seat which I thought was interesting. I wish there was some sort of program that they handed out with cast bios, outside of the one you have to buy, but I didn’t see one. Another small gripe was the fact there was only one bathroom in the circle, which formed a very long line during intermission. So rush there when the lights go up if needed!
All in all, definitely one of the highlights of our trip. I knew that I was going to love it but can confidently say that my fiancé did as well. The whole cast was outstanding and the story is timeless.
Fun fact: Since Oz is a made up place, I wasn’t sure if the actors would have British accents or default to American ones since that’s what the original cast used. Most were indeed British!

Decided to go see wicked again and have to say it was amazing. Well worth the visit and every single penny! The cast had it all, great costumes, amazing personalities and even better singing voices. The show also has a much needed interval for toilet breaks and ice cream time!
I had goosebumps throughout most of the show and wish it would never end. The wicked is truly amazing and leaves the wizard of oz in the dust and shows the true meaning behind the franchise!
Totally recommend going to every. Truly is one of the best west end shows out there and I couldn’t fault it in any way possible!
** one quick note, do NOT use your phone during the performance. It’s rude and puts the cast and audience off; a few rude people tonight but they soon got told off! **

The production of Wicked is amazing! I have seen it twice and felt the same buzz of butterflies each time. Wicked is twined into the movie The Wizard of Oz, I recommend watching that first if you have time, but even if you don’t, the play will still make total sense! Just slightly more interesting if you do or have seen it.
The venue is very easy to find — just outside Victoria station, you can see lots of signs towards it. I recommend getting there early enough to get snack etc, if you are late, you have to wait (like we did as dinner over-​ran) until the end of the first act.
Child friendly too — good moral to the production.

What can one say that has not been said about this musical… It’s amazing and is a must see!
I saw the Broadway version but enjoyed this one because I was about to get 7^th row seats after it was sold out on Valentine’s weekend. I waited in the returned tickets que and only paid £67.50 per ticket. On Broadway, I could’ve paid triple that for just one ticket.

This is a feast of color, sound, and artistry.
The songs and acting were fantastic. The costumes were unbelievable. And the story is delightful.
I loved every amazing moment of it.

Great production, great performance, great story, great singing, great sound, great music, gr… Yes I can go on.
These things are quite subjective, so I think people who wants to see wicked will see it even if the review is bad, and people who won’t want to see it would not be moved even if I give a stellar review. So I won’t say too much about the musical.
Reality is that it is an award winning musical for a reason. I have seen my fair share of both musical and operas and I think this is certainly up there.
So rather than talking about the musical, here’s a couple of tips instead:
— it’s a musical that takes up big stage presence, so upstairs first row might actually be better in view as you can see what’s happening behind as well. Front row downstairs might actually struggle a bit as the range and angle is quite steep.
— if you want to buy drinks, I suggest download their app to purchase. Your order will be delivered to you either at intermission or before the halves. Same price, but it means you can wait for the order with the comfort of your seat rather than standing at the queue. The app info is easily obtained at the theatre (I felt like it’s inappropriate to call out other apps here).
— get there a little earlier, Victoria station area is just generally a little busy, and quite big

I booked the ticket through the last
a week before. It was my first time to go to a theater in London. Wicked is very popular theater in Japan as well being produced by the most authorized theatrical company. But I had never seen it before.
I had checked the story in advance so I could understand even in English. Actually I couldn’t catch what all performers said or sang. But I quite enjoyed the amazing theater!!! It’s worth it.

Amazing show, it is about 3 hours long. They sell wine and popcorn and other snacks. We had the middle row about ten rows back, wish the seats floors would have been more angled to raise you higher then the person above. I kept having to move my heAd side to side every time the person in front of me did. Other then that… There is a intermission at the two mark for toilet brakes n refreshments. This play was absolutely amazing.

What an awesome show!!! The cast preforming during the afternoon show did an amazing job and the audience truly loved the performance. The theater is COLD, so come prepared with a jacket.

Songs, lights, color, fun! This is what comes in mind when I think about the performance Wicked! It was sooo grerat! I really enjoyed it, would easily go back again. The set, the costumes were so bright, so colorful!
Would whole heartedly recommend!

Wicked was great fun to see!!! The songs were great! The costumes were amazing too. They did a great job the the lighting. The props and the entire scene in stage was impressive.
Definitely a must see!

This is the third time I’ve seen Wicked at the Apollo and once again it didn’t disappoint!
Everything about the production is fantastic, from the lighting and costumes to the incredible songs. An absolute must-​see.

A really enjoyable show! I came here for my birthday and thought the show was very entertaining.
Some parts were sad but it was good that there is also some humour in it which made me laugh out loud. I’d definitely recommend this show to a friend and wouldn’t mind going to see it again.
I’ve heard some people say they’ve been numerous times and that it’s one of the best London shows.

A truly genius piece of theatre, and worth a look for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
The music is perfect, and the cast were fantastic.
There was a few changes from the original score (they switched octaves or talked-​in-​song through some of it) but it was STILL a fantastic show.
The tech is done fantastically, the costumes, the makeup; it really creates an atmosphere.
And the story itself? A new take on The Wizard of Oz from the Wicked Witch of The East’s perspective. Watch out for the clever hints of what’s going to happen later in the play (brainless/​lions/​celebrations/​water– THATS ALL YOU’RE GETTING!)
There were a few mic difficulties, and we ended up with Glinda’s understudy, which was a little disappointing as she wasn’t as well rehearsed in the songs as I had expected, but these things are unavoidable sometimes.
HOWEVER the theatre itself.
When you enter it has a really Oz-​ian themed foyer, with over-​priced gifty/​souveniry bits, I tend to steer clear of. If you insist on buying drinks at the interval for a treat, order them at the bar BEFORE the show, and they’ll be there waiting for you.
I also recommend heading to the ladies prior to the show or right at the start of the interval, the queue was literally all the way down the stairs and ⁴⁄₅ toilets broke due to the high demand.
But on the whole? A truly fantastic night out, worth every penny (especially if you get the 17.50 tickets from last
on a slow night– weekday nights or any matinée but saturday) and you can move straight down a couple of rows as the show starts!

The play itself is complete masterpiece, the play is centered around the alternative story of the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz which is quite unique & funny. The acting, costumes, singing and music are amazing which make this a venue not to be missed.
The show is about 3 hours long with a break in between during which there are people passing by with pricey snacks. Unfortunately there is only 2 bathrooms (male/​female) and of courses everyone rushes of there during the break. As a result there is a good chance if you go you will miss a part of the play,
If you are booking online you have to be careful not to pick some of the seats on the far left & right as they are behind some massive pillars and you will have limited view of the scene, so make sure you double check.
I was surprised to find that the staff was quite friendly as well and when we asked if we could move to some better seats a few lines in front of us which were empty after the show started they were more than ok for us to do so.
Finally, it is worth noting that usually just before the show starts they usually sell tickets for almost free so it is worth checking if you are passing by, but it isa bit of a gamble. Also amazon local started putting deals for £15 tickets for decent seats.

Probably we made the mistake of not being musical fans… regardless we decided to check it out as it had many good reviews.
And, well the sets were amazing and the costumes gorgeous but as for the show it was just an incredibly loud cacophony of sound. Very very little dialogue, not much dancing and not much of anything else accept big musical numbers and those are mostly people singing at the tops of their voices amplified to ear piercing levels. We had to leave due to the volume of the show… found it amusing they offer hearing aids! Oh and the £7 mini bottle of wine didn’t really start things off well either… prepare for a fleecing if you go.

A really good production telling the alternative story of the Wicked Witch from the Wizard Of Oz.
The cast has apparently changed quite a bit since the show has had residency in Victoria but the current cast are excellent. Some of the Mariah-​esque notes they hit are unbelievable!
I won’t give any spoilers away, so you I’ll keep the review short. The one thing I will say though is that we were sat in the circle and the sound was a bit iffy sometimes. I think they set the levels to accommodate the huge vocals on the big songs, but on the quieter vocals the orchestra drowned them out.
Overall a great show, I’d definitely recommend it.

Wicked est sans conteste la meilleure comédie musicale de Londres.
Comme à notre habitude, dès notre arrivée à Londres, nous allons direct à TKTS pour avoir d’excellentes places à prix réduit. Pour ce spectacle, impossible d’avoir des places au premier rang tellement ce show est populaire et on comprend vite pourquoi.
Beaucoup de moyens, une troupe de comédiens exceptionnelle et une superbe histoire.
Notre soirée a été pleine d’émotions car c’était la dernière pour la fantastique actrice principale Willemijn Verkaik (la sorcière)
Si vous passez à Londres, vous devez aller voir ce spectacle vraiment exceptionnel!

La historia esta basada en el mítico Mago de Oz, esta vez la protagonista es la bruja malvada del oeste, Su verdadera historia, como llega a Oz y xq se convierte en la malvada bruja.
Espectacular puesta en escena; vestuarios, escenografía, baile, música…
Les doy un 10 a los actores sobre todo a las dos protagonistas que transmiten en todo momento los sentimientos de sus personajes.
Desde principio a fin la obra me ha cautivado!

The show was INCREDIBLE and the cast /​crew and orchestra did an amazing job! I would give it 5 stars but the venue only had one ladies room that I could find and the line was Suuuuuper long during intermission causing me to miss the first little bit of the second half :(
Needless to say that’s the ONLY thing I could say that isn’t all the way thumbs up-​ish! My seat was in the circle section B25 and the view was awesome — slight obstruction by a safety rail but it was no biggie for me to dodge it when necessary.
the costumes are stunning /​the music of course awesome /​and this particular cast did a great job honoring the script and incredible creative legacy of the original cast :)

The final surprise in my girlfriends 30^th birthday bonanza and the best surprise of the weekend. The costumes, the singing, the acting was all fantastically well done and the venue looked like it was made for this show. Let me set the scene.
We open on a spacious lobby with a bar on one side with lovely décor and a bar on one side. We are taken down the stairs to the underground theatre and open up to a lovely stage with a dragon over it. The singing was fantatic, so clear and the acting was great too.
Ti tie up, go see it, go see it NOW!!! You wont be sorry

Hmm… I really wanted to like this. In fact, this is one of the shows I’ve most been looking forward to in the last few years and could finally get some cheaper tickets with the ‘Get Into London Theatre’ deal. Unfortunately though, perhaps my expectations were too high or maybe this just isn’t as good as I thought it would be.
We got the tickets half price but I have to say, if we had paid full-​price I would have been a bit upset (we had Circle seats). The theatre is very big and if you’re not on the ground, I think your experience is very different. There was definitely a lot more cheering and laughing from below and I can only guess it’s because from our seats we could barely make out the actors’ faces so we weren’t as impacted by their facial expressions.
The musical itself is a good story, moves along quite well, and is entertaining with great songs. However, this production is inconsistent. Maybe it was an off night but I felt like for most of the first half the chorus was not harmonizing well and the dancing choreography was stale and lacked energy. I sometimes felt like I was watching a high school production. I don’t know if it was a problem with the audio but I was not impressed with most of the singing. The actress playing Elphaba was the only one who impressed and even then she was inconsistent. The actress playing Glinda overacted to the point where it was irritating and the actor playing Fiyero was a good actor but had barely any voice. Having listened to the original Broadway soundtrack (and being a huge fan of Idina Menzel), I can’t help but see that this production comes nowhere near that.
On the positive side, a lot of the props such as the dragon and the sets were entertaining. Also, the supporting characters Madame Morrible, Nessarose, and the wizard are quite good. Finally, the costumes are well done.
I hate being harsh but I just felt let-​down by this and given that the tickets are rarely on sale and it’s sold out all the time, I think maybe the hype is overshadowing the fact that the production is mediocre.

Nachdem ich nun schon Phantom der Oper und König der Löwen in London war, wollte ich auch Wicked mal ausprobieren. Man sollte vorab erwähnen, dass ich weder die Story, noch die Story des Zauberers von Oz kannte ich habe mir eine schnelle Zusammenfassung von Oz durch einen Freund geben lassen, damit ich Wicked besser verstehen würde.
Die Umsetzung des Stücks, das die Geschichte des Zauberers von Oz aus der Perspektive der Wicked Witch erzählt, ist einfach unglaublich! Das hat nichts von einer low-​budget benutz-​deine-​fantasie-​Theaterproduktion, das war wirklich großes Kino mit genialen Bühnenbildern. Die Stimmen der Darsteller waren spitzenklasse, wir haben uns die ganze Zeit gefragt ob sie Mikros tragen, weil die Stimme so toll war (und die antwort ist Ja sie tragen welche). Die Kostüme waren super, die Umsetzung, die Songs wirklich ganz toll. gebucht haben wir ganz unproblematisch über
und hatten auch Glück, es gab nämlich eine Aktion, sodass wir für die sonst etwa 80 Pfund teurer Tickets 40 gezahlt haben und das war es wirklich wert! Ein bisschen ärgerlich war hingegen unser Platz, denn da man ja nicht so oft ins Musical geht, haben wir tief in die Taschen gegriffen und uns die teuersten Sitze geleistet oder mit die teuersten leider ist teuer nicht gleich gut, wenn wir saßen sehr weit oben, sodass wir teilweise nicht gut erkennen konnten was passiert. Der Balkon unter uns war günstiger und hatte eine bessere Sicht.
Auch das Apollo Victoria Theater, in dem ausschließlich und teilweise mehrmals täglich das Stück aufgeführt wird, war ein echtes Erlebnis das Theater war prunkvoll, aber düster und mit netter Detailberücksichtigugn gehalten, ganz im Stil von Wicked.
Ich kann nur empfehlen, dass man sich eine Zusammenfassung des Zauberers von Oz durchliest, bevor man das Stück Wicked ansieht und rate unbedingt davon ab sich eine Zusammenfassung von Wicked vorher durchzulesen, da man wirklich schön umgesetzte Überraschungsmomente und sich zusammenführende Puzzelstücke sonst für sich zerstört.
Vielleicht noch kurz erwähnt die Sprache. Oft hat ein Muttersprachler ja schon Probleme gesundene Texte zu verstehen und so ist es auch hier ich habe einige Jahre im Englischsprachigen Ausland gelebt und habe es wunderbar verstanden, aber zwei Freunde mit denen ich da war, haben wenig Erfahrung, haben es aber beide sinngemäßg verstanden und es absolut genossen. Für diejenigen, die sich im Englischen sehr unsicher sind empfehle ich nun doch, dass man sich die Zusammenfassung von Wicked durchliest, damit man die Handlung versteht.
In diesem Sinne: Wicked is wicked!

Tolle location und schönes Musical. Darsteller sind spitze und Hauptrollen haben überwältigende Stimmen. Sehr empfehlenswert!

ganz tolles musical! habe es hier dreimal gesehen… vor allem die bühnendeko ist wunderschön. allein schon der große drache, der über der bühne hängt, ist ein hingucker. musical hat alles was man von einem guten musical erwartet: lustig, tolle lieder, viel gefühl, tanzen…
bei einer vorstellung wurde es an der seite auch nochmal für gehörlose «übersetzt”-toller service!

Ich war und bin begeistert von diesem Musical.
Wunderschöné Inzenierung, traumhafte Stimmen.
Man kann nichts anderes machen als es weiterzuempfehlen.
Da ich leider nicht das Englischsprachgenie bin, habe ich mir fest vorgenommen, wenn es Zeit und Geld zulassen mir dieses Musical auch mal auf Deutsch anzuschauen.
Empfehlung 10 Punkte und 5 Sterne obendrauf: D

DAS Musical in London. Achwas, DAS Musical überhaupt.
Mitreissende und berührende Songs, unglaubliche Kostüme und Ausstattung und umwerfende Darsteller.
Ich habe Wicked in London 3x gesehen, mit 3 verschiedenen «Elphies» — jede war anders aber alle waren fantastisch. Dianne Pilkington als Galinda ist zum Brüllen komisch.
Von lustig bis tragisch wird die ganze Bandbreite an Emotionen bedient.
Es ist sicher sinnvoll den Zauberer von Oz zu kennen um die Geschichte besser zu verstehen.
Leser des Buches von Tobey Maguire sollten sich darauf einstellen, dass die Handlung etwas vereinfacht und auch geändert wurde.
Wer des Englischen halbwegs mächtig ist sollte sich Wicked im Original ansehen, die Sprachwitze lassen sich auch vom besten Übersetzer nicht zur Zufriedenheit übertragen, dies gilt im übrigen für die meisten Londoner Musicals.
Die günstigen Ticketpreise — bei rechtzeitiger Buchung — sind wohl ein weiteres Argument Wicked in London zu sehen, ebenso die Atmosphäre im schönen alten Apollo Theatre.
Einfach zu erreichen an der Victoria Station.
Kein London ohne Wicked.
