Yo! Sushi

Hmm… Not my most favourite place to eat, kind of a novelty really…
Not too sure if this is my inner bitch, or if it’s a general thing, but, I didn’t like the over friendly staff! We were badgered 3 times, in our hour stay here, asking if we’d like to try certain things on the menu, asking if we were enjoying our first visit etc. It made us want to run!
The food is very nice, there are so many things to choose that it deserves a second visit, but beware, it’s extremely easy to over buy! As you just pick things off the conveyor belt, the bill can very easily add up!

This restaurant has been a favourite of mine and my family for one year. The sushi is always perfect with no (if any) errors whatsoever, and the other non-​sushi items are equally great too.
The only negative thing I have to say about this place is due to its popularity, the place can get crowded in the afternoons, but then again, that could be seen as a good sign of its fame :). Only once did my waiter forget am item I ordered, but it happened only once-​so overall, this place is absolutely AWESOME!
Everytime me, my mother and sister come here, we always leave the place pleased.
A must try!

Everyone in Croydon loves Yo! Sushi, which is a bit of a problem as there’s nowhere near enough space at this little concession in House of Fraser. Expect queues and slow service and a long wait for a seat at the conveyor belt. It says a lot that people would rather queue to eat here than go to any of the empty food concessions round it. Croydon needs a second, or bigger Yo! Sushi.

The sushi here is really, REALLY good, if not that authentic. It is always my first choice for food in Croydon — potential problems are the service which can be quite slow if you order something specific but, to be fair, the conveyor is always full and most people opt for this option so it isn’t really that surprising that they are focussing on this aspect of the restaurant. It is also sometimes difficult to get a seat and, as always with conveyors, a bit antisocial if you’re in a larger group. Still well worth a visit though, as the food is more than good enough to make up for any strategical issues.

This is pretty much the only place where you can get sushi in Croydon, and it doesn’t disappoint. Probably not the most authentic, but it is certainly tasty and does the job. Everything is served on the conveyor belt, so you pick whatever dish you may fancy or you can get others made up for you. The dishes are colour coded according to price, so it can all add up if you are a big eater. I only tend to come here if I have a 50% off voucher, which you can sometimes get by signing up to their newsletter.

There are not many places in Croydon that offers up a treat but House of Fraser harbours one in the form of Yo Sushi. I adore this cheap and cheerful chain and before this branch opened I had to make do with one near work in the City.
The set-​up is the same in each branch. You can pick your plates off the conveyor belt, it is priced according to colour but you can also choose from the menu — I love the rolls especially the spicy tuna yum yum — you get unlimited miso and you pay once for a glass and can have as much tap water as you want.
It is also a really kid friendly establishment and it is nice to see your food being prepared in front of you as the seat are an island effect around the chefs (hope that makes sense!).

If you are after something a little different, a dining experience in Centrale’s shopping centre food court fits the bill. Located in the basement of the House of Fraser’s store, the ultra-​modern Yo! Sushi bar setting offers a comfortably quirky lunchtime or early evening treat. There are no intimate tables here however, just a shiny, lacquered bar and chrome and leather high bar stools.
You serve yourself from the stainless steel taps, distributing sparkling or still mineral water, and watch in amazement as your lunch (or dinner) glides along on a conveyor belt. The coloured dishes are individually priced, and a guide book explains the prices and ingredients. There is far more than succulent sushi on the menu though. Marinated aubergines and meat dishes, stir-​fried noodles and pumpkin patties revolve along the bar with angelhair prawns and exotic fruit salads in tow.
The food is gorgeous but the price tag can be more expensive than anticipated if you don’t keep a check on those colour-​coded dishes!

The service: oh dear. This is supposed to be a quick option but if you visit the Yo! Sushi for a quick lunch, you’d better not order any dishes that need making up for you.
My initial visit here, on opening night, was really disappointing but could be put down to teething problems. However, every other visit since has been characterised by slow service. Sometimes it hasn’t mattered, because I’ve not been in a hurry, but most of the time it’s been somewhat irritating to have to wait so long for my special order.
The staff are friendly enough, but they really need to put a rocket up the backside of the chefs.
