The Speedgate Saddlery incorporates a coffee shop(open on Sundays and, I think, Fridays too) that, as well as catering for Saddlery patrons, is justly popular with club cyclists from across north Kent and south-east London. The ladies that run the café are friendly and, after you’ve ordered at the counter, will bring food to your table. It’s the usual breakfast stuff, fry-ups, bacon sandwiches, beans on toast, that kind of things, plus a selection of cakes and biscuits — all very reasonably priced. Thirsty cyclists get big steaming mugs of tea and big wadges of cake and still have change from £3. It can get quite crowded some Sundays, but at least on dry summer days you can sit outside on benches and put the world to rights before setting back off down the thrilling descent towards Horton Kirby.
