A beautiful hotel. It’s well preserved and fun to stay in, and the lounge is spectacular: wood paneled, with a fireplace. It was hard to leave. Our room was clean and comfortable, and only slightly more expensive than most hotels in Ludlow. They have some pet free rooms btw. The restaurant was very good. It’s pretty formal, which is different from the comfortable feel of the rest of the hotel. They had venison from the nearby forest which was delicious.

We had Sunday lunch here yesterday. It was beef(seems to be a recurring theme) and I was perturbed to find that it wouldn’t be possible to have it rare. However, when the food arrived, despite the fact that the meat was not at all pink, it was still moist and tender. My grandma had specifically asked for hers to be well done and as per usual she didn’t finish I stepped in to help out, and even though her meat was even darker than mine it was still very tasty. Rare would still have been better but this was very good. The accompaniments were good too(maybe could have done with a few more green vegetables), and tasty cheese/chutney/crackers to finish

Christmas lunch at The Feathers, a real treat — old world charm of the ancient 17th century coaching inn. I’m sure it hasn’t changed one little bit, except for the staff, who must be getting younger(or is it me going the other way?) and the excellent serving standards, food preparation and presentation(I bet it was much rougher in the 17th century and don’t think they had electric ovens). And, they have free WiFi now. Jolly atmosphere, attentive service and very nice food, traditionally Christmas, in keeping with beautiful old country town and famous hotel landmark. There is now also a trendy café bar tucked onto the side through a door off the main lobby — quite a surprise considering the timber framed frontage and the very traditional immediate interior lobby — but definitely a nice spot for a meet — trendy vs traditional to cater for all — excellent. Car park at the rear, through very tight little arched entrance off the main road at the front. Highly recommended.

I booked a room at the Feathers Inn based on a review from The New York Times Travel section which gave it high marks. I especially made the trip to Ludlow to stay at this hotel and visit Ludlow Castle. While the exterior of Feathers is undeniably gorgeous, the interior was shabby in places, the wall-to-wall carpeting was stained and overall there was a distinct smell of old steamed food. In fact, the atmosphere at the Feathers was so creepy that we checked out after an hour and went to another hotel.

Had a great Sunday roast lunch with live jazz by Remi Harris Jazz Trio. Wonderful historic building, with an outdoor terrace /courtyard area at back. Perfect for hot summers days. Definitely recommend!!!

We didn’t stay we only had lunch in the bar but it was perfect. Cosy snug with a lovely roast dinner plus pud for only £11.25-bargain! It was roast beef when we went and it was huge but I still managed to squeeze in a chocolate brownie for afters. And there’s live jazz at sunday lunchtimes what more could you want? The rain was bucketing down when we went but I think on nice days they do a BBQ in their lovely courtyard. Only problems is they don’t let you book so make sure you get there early if you want to nab a table in the area where the band are.

The Feathers is a fine traditional black and white building situated in the centre of Ludlow. We were treated to a night here in return for bringing back all the Christmas food shopping; I think we got the best of the deal. The reception area is warm and welcoming, and we were allocated a large room that had a separate seating area, plus a table with built in seating in a window alcove. The room was clean and comfortable, and we had a fine dinner in the hotel dining room. A word of warning here, if you are staying in foodie Ludlow, do not assume that there will be anywhere to eat in the evening, as the foodie restaurants are all booked up months in advance, and there is not much else open. After dinner, we popped out for a quick drink, and came back to find a roaring fire in the upstairs sitting room. Along with the smell of burning fruit wood and the pine from the Christmas tree, the room was absolutely magical. Just the place to curl up with a book before retiring for a good night’s sleep. We were able to leave our car in the car park whilst doing our shopping, which was a great help. Very friendly staff, and a lovely place to stay. Don’t book if you like cloned hotels where everything is perfect, otherwise go to the Feathers and enjoy!

Degrays resturant and tearooms is situated in Broad Street in the centre of Ludlow parking would be about a five min walk and there is a charge for parking. The restraunt is lovely and in the winter they even have a real fire, the food is beautiful and we look forward to visiting there when ever we are in the area. The restaurant always has a very relaxed feel and the staff are very friendly and well trained prices are reasonable. The building dated back to 1570 and the owners have kept the look as much as possible. If you have any room left after the dinner call into their lovely cake shop on the way out!
