Chose to eat here after reading about it in The Guardian’s budget eats guide(though you can also smell it a mike off). They serve pizzas by the slice, and these slices are larger than your average pizza. You serve yourself using chunky wooden chopping boards. Food tastes great, it’s good value, plus the atmosphere and décor are great as you seat very much in the bakery. There are only two soft drinks on tap: water and local apple juice, both of which are served by the mug or the bottle. Avoid eating early if you’re not a fan of kids. Recommended.

Quirky? Yes! Good? Oh yeah! Damned fine bread? Absolutely!!! If you find yourself in Lyme Regis at breakfast time, you’ve just got to try this place — it’s more of an experience than a breakfast! There’s muesli and croissant and eggs and toast on offer. Mingle with everyone else(and it is popular with all-sorts) and toast whatever bread you choose. Then sit down on a bench at the trestle table, to enjoy a hearty breakfast amidst a very friendly atmosphere! Go on! Give it a go. You’ll enjoy it, you’ll see!

Sehr, sehr leckerabsolut satt geworden! Das hat sich 100%ig gelohnt!

Possibly one of the worst value for money places I ever visited in decades of travelling around the UK and the world. Got there on a Tuesday around 2pm and there was hardly any food left, no help around just a couple of bakers looking uninterested, a few cracked and smelly wooden plates and some unappetising leftovers on the main counter. The benches were filthy and the staff mostly just interested in talking to each other or to some friends — it is therefore impossible to comment about the service as there was none. Above all a bowl of tomato soup and a slice of cake(no tea as no waitress ever materialised) was close to £9… We consumed our meal surrounded by dirty paper napkins and crockery and left immediately. I’d gladly pay when the ratio of value for money is appropriate and I don’t mind even forking out £50 for a premium afternoon tea in London, but it has to be commensurate with what you are going to get. This place was a joke, just phoney really and the epitome of all that can be wrong with catering in this country when pretence rules over substance.

Good food, nice atmosphere, you have to be willing to sit on benches, often cosy with stranger, food is all available laid out for you to choose, not a huge selection but what is there is very good. Not an inexpensive place, but again what is there is very good so I guess you get what you pay for!

Really enjoyed everything about this place. So laid back but lovely food and atmosphere — should have one of these in every town! Even drove down from Worcester for a day out to Lyme Regis just to have lunch there!

This is my sort of place — canteen style tables with benches, giant earthenware bowls of butter, jam and home-made peanut butter, jugs of local apple juice, coffee to travel miles for, today’s papers, cool staff and the constant smell of baking. Grab a wooden board, help yourself to toast, scones, cakes, focaccia, tarts etc etc(all made in the open kitchen), order your drink, take a seat and enjoy! Pay when you leave — nothing so vulgar as a bill. The fussy might object to dipping their knife into a communal butter bowl — but not me. I love the buzz, the camaraderie and find it hard to leave without a loaf of sourdough under my arm!
