Considering how tiny the town of Maidenhead is, it is always exciting to find a convenient location to get your SouthEast Asian ingredients and food supplies from. The goods selections range from Japanese to Thai food items. Surprisingly, Filipino food items are occupying a decent shelf space(even in the fridge sections). Food that I miss from home are kept frozen such as Longganisa, Daing na Bangus, Tocino(among others) are actually available. I’m yet to try them though. Watch this space! The most exciting thing for me are the Thai dishes that the staff cook within the premises with the fresh ingredients in store(also available for purchase of course). Staple dishes such as Pad Thai, Red Curry, spring rolls and even something that resemble Phô(vermicelli noodles in broth and meat with fresh vegetables). It might even be an actual Phô(so you can add Vietnamese in the list). The meals are up to good standard and very authentic in taste and form. Best of all, very very affordable. Large takeaway of rice and red curry chicken(my favourite here) for example is only £5. This is enough for a dinner for two. Price is the same if you eat it in the store on crockeries. Yesterday, there was an arts and craft sale on the high street(happens every quarter if I’m not mistaken) and the mood was festive and lively. The west end of the hight street had a stage where invited performers sing and whilst I was watching, I couldn’t help breathing in a wonderful aroma of chargrilled chicken scent that sent me right back home that instant. It was in fact coming from this Thai store. Needless to say, I dined in and had some with my usual red curry chicken and rice! Wonderful is the one word I could quickly think of. To me, it was a marriage of Thai and Filipino gastronomy. Despite its humble and simple appearance, this store is a definite gem in Maidenhead!
