Seems a pleasant enough country pub, with a varied food menu and good beers. BUT … the WORST service I have ever suffered. The staff are glacially slow in dealing with the long queue of customers at the bar — in a 31 minute time-in-queue the server managed to process a grand total of 7 customers, so I reckon they are 2−3x slower than the normal expectation!!! AVOID.

I recently visited for the pubs Celtic beer festival. The beer was understandably great but what stood out was the service and the friendly inclusive atmosphere. We could not have been made to feel more welcome. wonderful place and first class people. Thank you all for a great time. I will be back.

Popped in for a Sunday roast last week at short notice having not been here for a while. They have extended their food hours on a Sunday until 5, which was a bonus for us Pub is full of character with open log fires, friendly landlady and clientele, interesting paraphernalia and community updates. Also stock a decent range of real ales on tap. Great looking menu with plenty of variety. However, prices seem to have inflated significantly since our last visit, which is a disappointment for what is essentially traditional pub fare. Basic sunday roast for 2, including mid range starters, one pint and a soda water came in at over £50. Decided to pick up a pudding at the supermarket to save the cash!

Just here now with the kids. Food fantastic, good beer on tap too. I’d recommend this place as the kids can play out back. As ever with Qype the data is dirty, wrong address and another place with a different name that’s actually the same. I’ll sort it out when I get home if I can.

This is a lovely traditional village pub. Cookham Dean is a beautiful village and this pub is owned by the villagers! The food is very good and served every day all day. They have a huge garden with childrens swings etc and it is big enough for the kids to run around and do their own thing! The beers are also very good — a CAMRA pub!

What makes a true village pub? Well, how about one that’s owned by its village: The Jolly Farmer in the centre of Cookham Dean. Faced with the insidious march of Beefeater conversions and gastro-pubs, fifty intrepid villagers bought The Jolly some 20 years ago with the simple objective of keeping it as a local. At the time, it made the national press, slightly derisively, but, with time, it’s proved to be a huge success. It’s still a free-house, the restaurant is still an add-on to the main bar and, good or bad, it’s still frequented by a large number of villagers. You might be surprised by the number of brass medallions hanging by the log fireplaces, the number of strange old bottles surrounding the bar, and the photos of locals from previous generations supping ale on the adjoining village green but, equally, you might be relieved to find that a fast disappearing example of a genuine British pub still survives.
